A man wanted in Williamsburg Kentucky for the murder of his wife and subject to a $5,000 reward has been arrested in Bedford Ohio. He used the names Pat Dwyer and later Charles L Hendon, with Williamsburg authorities notified.
Canton dispatch reports Mrs. Nancy Allison McKinley in lethargic repose with no sign of return of consciousness. President McKinley remains at her side, refusing rest while the nation sends condolences and congratulations on his congressional message.
In Burton Geauga County Ohio Andrew Nikola a 45 year old grain merchant shot himself in the throat after supper. Mrs Blair who heard the first shot fetched a doctor but another shot was fired before arrival and Nikola was found dead in his room. Authorities attribute the act to alcohol.
The will of Mrs Elizabeth McMillan wife of General William McMillan formerly of Cincinnati was admitted to probate in Columbus. It bequeaths about $250000 in property most to General McMillan a $5000 gift to Hannah Neil Miss and a $300 odd bequest to the son not present at death to cover traveling expenses for the funeral attendance.
In Floodwood Ohio three men died in quick succession. Riley Powell, his son Will Powell, and Peter Klinesmith of Logan were killed after a blast burst through an adjacent room where Powell and son worked for G. W. Shafer & Son. Klinesmith, supervising a tearing down gang, was fatally injured when a pulley collapsed.
Prince Henry of Prussia, commander of the second German squadron bound for Kiao Chou Bay, visited Prince Bismarck in Fraide Friedrichsruhe and spent two hours in talks on the eastern situation before departing for Kiel. General Count Waldersee led officers at the platform to bid him farewell as he pledged loyalty to the Emperor.
Charles Roberts and his wife with four sons sought relief at Delaware police HQ after walking from Kansas to Ohio. The family wore worn clothing and carried all belongings on their backs. They received food and free transport to Marysville and plan to reach Cincinnati where relatives are reportedly well off.
James Murray Constable for Jenny Lind, Sebastian County, was found dead near the Bonanza Mine after arresting miner Grant McBroom. The coroner reports Murray was waylaid by a mob of McBroom’s friends, who hanged him, then cut him down and left the body by the roadside. McBroom was later arrested as authorities hunt the mob members.
New York dispatch reports Commercial Cable Company notice that Chinese authorities close the telegraph office at Kiao-Chou in Shan Tung province. The closing affects communications and shipping news from the port.

Mrs. Florence Van Schaack sues Peter Van Schaack in Chicago seeking 75000 dollars for alienation of her husband affections and 50000 dollars for libel. She says letters by the defendant caused her husband to leave. ABrooklyn verdict of 65000 dollars already secured by default was not operable in Chicago.
In Kentucky, Samuel Crabtree, a Lawrence County prisoner, repeats his confession to Wardens, detailing the murders of his cousins William Short and Tony Rice. He shows signs of mental and physical collapse and fears possible execution while saying he does not care if he is hanged.
Under an order by the State Board of Equalization the taxable value of twelve Cleveland city National banks rises by 1 154 000 and twenty six State banks by 272 000. The increase stems from valuations on tax duplicates being much lower than reports to the Comptroller of the Treasury. Banks say offsets are due and will contest in court.
John Schwinen, 62, committed suicide by leaping from a high Lincoln Park bridge to the ice below. The fall in sight of about 100 witnesses left him dead on impact as the ice, three inches thick, stopped his body. Schwinen was unemployed and despondent.
Probate Judge Londes M. Bowers of Wyandot County obtained a license to marry Em ma Peifer, a move described as possibly the first of its kind in the state. Because a probate judge cannot issue his own license, the license was secured from Common Pleas Judge Allen Smailey with papers filed as a motion.
An explosion at a suburban gas station near Frankfort, Indiana, at 3 am destroyed houses and machinery, causing about $1000 in damage. The blast halted electric light service and all natural gas usage as workmen began repairs.
At the Alabama convention Rev. C. C. Smith of Ohio delivered a address on The Importance of Educating the Negro. Rev. J. A. Lord editor of the Christian Standard Cincinnati spoke on Home Missions urging personal missionary effort and critiquing state national and foreign mission work.
In Louisville on December 8 evangelists W. C. Fort and J. C. Nash fought with bare fists in Forts office after a dispute over an account. The clash followed a governor approved prize ring style. Fort struck Nash on the nose and both men were badly bruised as bystanders intervened.

Santa Fe New Mexico December 8 announcement that F W Seward of Eddy has bought the Home Ranch at Chico Springs Colfax County including the Dorsey built residence for Colonel Robert G Ingersoll and will convert it into a sanitarium for consumptives

Clarence Johnston a two year Hamilton County convict sentenced for robbery swallowed carbolic acid to avoid water punishment for rule infractions. The acid was pumped out and the punishment proceeded, with officials noting the incident did not alter the disciplinary action.
The Rev. Dr. John Atkinson 63 longtime Methodist pastor died today in New York. He served in New Jersey Chicago Bay City and Adrian Michigan and authored the hymn We Shall Meet Beyond the River along with many works on church affairs.

Delilah Fales confesses to firing the fatal shots that killed Jerome Kern on August 23 in a secluded Iowa wood. Indicted today, she says years of alleged abuse led to the premeditated crime and claims to have prayed for strength as she shot him, then aided a false alibi with fellow suspect William Kern corroborating her account.
