In Berlin on December 2 the U S Embassy joined a te deum at St Hedwig s Church for Emperor Francis Joseph s jubilee. He alluded to anti Austrian sentiment linked to threats in the Austrian Reichstag and to reprisals if German policy against Austrians continued, expressing satisfaction at the enduring treaty with a mighty empire.

CHICAGO December 2 Governor John R Tanner refused to comment on his indictment for omission of duty by the Macoupin County Grand Jury in connection with the Virden coal mine riots. He said the affair is nothing but a political scheme.
Marsden Cellulose Company of Rockford Illinois and Owensboro Kentucky plans a principal plant in Newport News with a cost not less than 250000. Seven of thirteen directors are millionaires led by Edward S Cramp the shipbuilder. The firm recently shipped eighty tons of corn pith cellulose for cofferdams of battleships Kearsarge Kentucky and Illinois.
The torpedo boat Farragut completed official trials in San Francisco and exceeded the required thirty knots by .18, recording 30.18 knots. Official time will be released in a day or two.

Roscoe Huntington aged 57, who claimed kin to Collis P. Huntington and H. E. Huntington, died by his own action in a Los Angeles lodging house today using morphine. He had arrived about a year ago with money and hoped for work at Southern Pacific. he was disappointed and sent orders to forward belongings to his son J. M. Huntington of Norfolk, Virginia.

In Macomb Illinois, dynamite was placed under Dr J R Kelley’s Augusta residence last night. The blast damaged the kitchen wall. Mrs Kelley and her son were inside, with Mrs Rings and William Swartz arrested hours later for the deed. Swartz allegedly confessed. authorities cite alleged dynamite purchase in Plymouth.
