John White, 28, in wedding attire, drank nearly half a pint of carbolic acid in a barn before his wedding to Nettie Whittaker of Waynetown. He died within minutes. parents and bride-elect are prostrated. The motive remains unknown.
Elkins West Virginia August 30 George R Gobbert 28 a prominent contractor shot himself at the Randolph Hotel after his marriage hopes were blocked by Miss Grace Riley’s parents. He left letters to Miss Riley and his father saying he feared going crazy and gave business directions.
In Pope County near an illicit distillery an ambush killed Deputy U S Marshal B F Taylor and Deputy U S Marshal Joe Dodson and wounded two others. The six officers were raiding a moonshine operation thirty five miles from Russellville when fired on by a gang led by Horace Bruce and John Church. Two deputies are missing presumed alive. the area has long housed moonshiners and counterfeiters.
In Columbus Ohio Frank Miller the murderer facing electrocution Thursday night shows signs of breakdown after previously keeping calm. He refused breakfast this morning and spent the day realizing the gravity of his fate. The State Board of Pardons will not intervene and there is no prospect of Governor or Supreme Court involvement.
Boston August 30 Robert S Traine president and director of the United Telegram Company was arrested by a police inspector on a charge of embezzling seventy three thousand five hundred dollars The company has been under receiver Marsden J Perry since last June after a petition to the U S Circuit Court seeking an investigation found a treasury shortfall of about seventy six thousand one hundred fourteen dollars.
The corner stone of St Johns German Catholic Church was laid August 26 1872 and a silver jubilee observed August 29 with about 3000 attendees. Masses were held and sermons given in German. Father Mackey of Cincinnati delivered a historic speech on church and free government. Archbishop Elder presided.
Miss Alberta D Garber assistant at the Every Day Church in Boston resigns due to overwork and will return to Cincinnati Thursday. A farewell reception is set for Wednesday at Pastor Dr Perrins Roxbury home as Rev Abbie Danorth of Ohio assumes the assistant role.

After nearly three weeks in Logan County Jail Lewis Deerwester was released Monday afternoon. His attorney prepared a writ of habeas corpus but Prosecuting Attorney Sam H. West ordered his immediate release. Deerwester, weak and tottering, went to his sister's home and said he had harmed no one but himself. Rumors circulated of three new suspects as officers pursue clues.
Announcement from the National Association of Letter Carriers says the annual convention will meet in San Francisco from September 6. Initial plan had San Francisco, then Chicago, with a wire conference deciding to hold on the Pacific coast.
Agatha Wilker a 17 year old girl was liberated after forty two days in jail without any charge filed against her. She is to testify against William Miller who allegedly assaulted her. Miller is free on bail while Agatha remains jailed for lack of funds to post $500 bail as a witness.
Nathaniel Johnson, a Hamilton County burglar serving two years, poured scalding water into his shoe to injure himself and escape punishment after being caught stealing pies. He was sentenced to the ducking tub and burned his foot so severely that flesh came away when the shoe was removed.
On Monday five human skeletons were unearthed at the farm of Infirmary Director Harvey Young west of Bellefontaine. Hex antlers were placed above one group of bones. The skeletons are believed to be those of people killed by Indians early in the century.
A mob planned to lynch John A. Gafford after the Lloyd killing. Sheriff Shanks, with Governor Johnston's orders, summoned Greenville Rifles. Troops manned the jail while two prisoners escaped through a jail wall hole. Gafford was moved by train under guard to Greenville later that afternoon.
A Dundee building housing a dwelling and barber shop was destroyed by a natural gas explosion. Isaac Johnson and his wife were fatally injured when gas leaked from a pipe and a worker removed a cap causing ignition. The blast hurled Mrs. Johnson across the street as the structure collapsed.

Chicago August 30. Mrs George Middleton wife of the dime museum proprietor stabbed Belle Carmon as she prepared to cycle with Mr Middleton. The Carmon woman may die from injuries inflicted tonight in the incident at the theater and museum.
Indianapolis Aug 30. Thomas Condon janitor for the Appellate Court is found dead in the sleeping room on the third floor with suspicion of poisoning. He had battled facial cancer and lived alone with no known relatives in the city. The coroner seeks a cause of death as authorities investigate.
The Citizens Union executive committee in New York declares its lone support for Seth Low as mayor of Greater New York. It rejects national issues and party ties, citing 127 429 voters backing Low and urging independent nominations aligned with voters’ wishes for city governance.
Burglars entered the Dominion Bank branch in Napanee on Friday night and stole about $32,000 in checks and cash from the vault. The theft went unseen until Saturday when the vault combination was learned, delaying detection until 7 p.m. An expert eventually unlocked the vault revealing the robbery and the loss. About $10,000 in unsigned checks were stopped, leaving an estimated $22,000 likely unrecovered. the bill numbers are known.

In Muncie Indiana Samuel Rutherford aged 60 was fatally injured when his wagon team bolted while he stood before them. The tongue caught between his legs and the reins. the wagon struck a telephone pole after three blocks. One horse fell atop Rutherford.
Lexington Kentucky reports typhoid fever strikes the Eastern Kentucky Lunatic Asylum. Supervisor Mr Cunningham of Kankakee Illinois contracts the fever as the facility records fifteen cases in two weeks with two fatalities.
British troops faced a setback as Afridis captured Ft Lundi Kotal closing the Khyber route. Two Subadars sons fought in the attack while a loyal Subadar led the defense before being killed. Col Gordon’s column was ordered to force Kohat Pass if needed.
