Revered Gallaudet Dies in New York City
The Rev. Thomas Gallaudet D D Protestant Episcopal clergyman died at his New York home. Born Hartford Connecticut June 8 1822 he taught at the New York Institution for Deaf Mutes 1843 to 1858 took orders in 1850 and served St Annes Church 1852. He led church services for deaf mutes and became general manager of the Church Mission to Deaf Mutes in 1872. He founded the Gallaudet Home for Deaf Mutes at Poughkeepsie New York in 1885.
