A brutal electrical storm across Missouri and southern Illinois left seven dead near St Louis and De Soto plus numerous injuries. Victims included Jefferson Rulo and family members in Illinois and a 26 year old Elizabeth Hansdorf of St Louis. The storm felled trees and struck tents as residents sought relief from heat.
The Weather Bureau reports warm conditions will cover most of the country east of the Mississippi in the first part of the coming week with cooler air spreading to the Northwest and Middle West by midweek. Eastern and Southern states should see generally fair skies early week with showers in the northwest later. no West Indies disturbance indicated.
Two girls Cora Ellis aged 12 and Louise Oliver aged 9 and man Domonic Dalise aged 30 drowned when a boat capsized on Lake Glacier near Youngstown Ohio. Witnesses swam to rescue other girls aboard who were saved. Dalise's frantic attempts to save the craft caused it to go over the lake dam.
William Haver, 30, of Cleveland, drowned at Lorain city bathing beach. Lifesavers recovered his body after a search. He was the third drowning at the beach this season.
Four canoists faced disaster when their overloaded boat sank at the head of Belle Isle in Detroit. George T. Robinson Edward Jolly and Louis Loose were drowned while Henry Steinberg survived after clinging to the wreck for nearly two hours until a passing launch found him.
In Dayton Ohio on August 25 Mrs Rebecca Good aged 48 attempted suicide twice by taking rough on rats. A freight train blocked the street crossing holding the ambulance for five minutes delaying critical medical aid. Doctors said she could not live due to the delay.
Aug 25 Washington The shoshone irrigation claim bill passed restoring $11,000 of a $42,000 relief package to Katharine MacDonald of Butte. The measure targets about 409 claimants who suffered from a contracting firm failure tied to the Wyoming project. President Taft vetoed an earlier version but signed the final bill.
In Edwardsville Illinois police and railroad officials hunted for a $1700 loss after Joseph Bayer missed his purse on a northbound train. The pocketbook containing a $1500 certified check and $200 cash was found after a match revealed its fall from his coat. Bayer continued to New York with his family.
Indiana registers for Taft as Crumpacker states Taft has better chance of winning Indiana than Wilson or Roosevelt. He cites 1908 results and local prohibition issues but warns Roosevelt aims to split the Republican vote. Continued in Page 9.

Washington August 25 The cruiser Pennsylvania will be renamed the Pittsburg to allow new battleships to bear the Pennsylvania name. The naming pattern follows the precedent of states receiving battleships and cities receiving cruisers.
Andrew Carnegie, in a cable to The World via Skibo Scotland, denounces Pittsburg industrial commission plans to gift a silver service costing ten thousand dollars for a city hall or peace palace project. He argues Pittsburg should not honor militaristic endeavors and condemns the use of public funds for such displays.
Jean Benoist claimed victory in a hydro aeral race covering 23 kilometers with three passengers aboard. Meisguisch suffered internal injuries after an engine failure caused his exhibition flight to crash on rocks.
Chicago reports Claude Grahame White the English aviator who won the 1910 Belmont park Gordon Bennett race will sail to join the September 9 Gordon Bennett event and the following aviation meet. Three French Deperdussin racers, Jules Verdines and Maurice Prévost, transit from New York, boosting entrants to at least six. Edmund Audemars of Switzerland plans to sail soon. The American 160 horsepower defender undergoes strength and speed trials led by W Sterling Burgess Norman Prince and De Lloyd Thompson amid late modifications.
Fifteen thousand Elks from across the United States will assemble in Dayton for a week of sessions. A grand reception opens the event tomorrow evening with H. H. Pace of Memphis as the featured speaker. Governor Harmon or an official from his office may give the opening address, with speakers including J. Frank Wheaton of New York Judge William Morris and Mrs Hodges of Norfolk for the ladies' auxiliary.

George Rosenbaum, linked to Mayor Woszczynski’s bribe case, was arrested on a charge of offering a bribe but released on bond. Brooks said she will seek an autopsy of Esther Harrison’s body amid rumors her body was stolen to thwart the investigation.
Carpenters building a new roof at the old Daniel Freeman farmhouse north of Mansfield discover seven bags of gold in the cornice. The hoard is believed to be the late Mrs. Freeman’s and the coins may total thousands.
