Dr Robert J Aley Indiana state superintendent of instruction and Democratic candidate for re election accepted the presidency of the University of Maine last week He withdrew from the Democratic state ticket and the vacancy was filled by Charles A Greathouse a Tom Taggart lieutenant.
Lewis Cass Laylin of Columbus chosen chairman of the Ohio Republican state executive committee to lead the fall campaign. The central committee unanimously endorsed him with Malcomb Jennings as secretary and William C. Hoff man as treasurer. An executive committee of forty four members was named, with Taft backers planning to add more. Laylin pledged strong organization statewide and united action to win the ticket and Senate seat.
Spokane reports revised dead list from Northwest wildfires as 86 forest service employees feared dead. Rescue crews search for Ranger Joseph B. Halm and 84 others missing near the St. Joe headwaters. News notes fires threaten towns along the Columbia and Milwaukee lines and a proposed big gun detonation at Puget Sound forts to trigger rain.
Charleston West Virginia report says fire started from a defective flue destroying a score of buildings including the office at Hanford. The loss is put at about 30000 dollars with no casualties.
Timbermen Charles Miller and Warren Weston recount a deadly fire on a Big Creek canyon in Idaho. They describe 30 Italian firefighters who burned as flames swept the canyon while others and 65 American laborers arrived from St. Joe with reports of 48 deaths.

Wind gusts toppled outbuildings, and several areas temporarily lost power as crowds sought shelter. Farmers reported corn blown down and grain sheaves scattered across fields, especially in Millcreek valley and along the Ohio river.
Rev. Dr. William Vail Wilson Davis a prominent Congregational minister of Pittsfield and father of author William Stears Davis was killed today by falling over a ledge at Bush Bish falls near the New York state line. He formerly served in Cleveland and Worcester.
George Washington Peachy a veteran Argo naut of California and descendant of Revolutionary War soldiers died in Los Angeles aged 81. Sons of the Revolution records note his father Benjamin Peachy enlisted in the Continental Army in 1777.

They will stage four series of ten games in major American cities after the world championship, with Tex Rickard removed amid protests from club owners. Thirty two of thirty four selected players have signed contracts, aiming to crown the two greatest big league teams on a cross country tour.
