Great U 8 Fleet to Assemble in the Caribbean

Hanna gives up efforts to end 10 miners' strike

United States Senator M A Hanna arrived in Buffalo with his daughter Ruth Hanna and Miss Phelps. Special Despatch reports Russell Sage urging J. P. Morgan to end the coal strike. Sage calls Morgan the greatest man in finance and says his influence with mine magnates and leaders of the steel trust could swiftly halt the dispute and resume mining operations.

Theodore J. Shaffer president of the Amalgamated Association of Iron Steel and Tinworkers is seriously ill in Pittsburg. He was taken ill Saturday night or Sunday morning and for most of the day was reported delirious with authorities saying he is a very sick man.

Dreamed of a mishap ends in deadly gas tragedy

Bryant Schick awoke from a dream to find his Chicago home filled with escaping gas. His wife and two children, a two year old girl and an infant boy, were dead, believed due to his wife turning on the gas while temporarily insane. A note she left was unreadable.
