Glenn H Curtiss, American aviator, and M Paulham of France shared honors on the second aviation week day in Rheims. Curtiss lowered the track speed record to 8:35.2 for the 6 15 mile course, amid jubilant French spectators as Lefebvre and Bleriot contested records in the endurance and altitude events.
Boston August 28 Swarms of bees stung J B Webster of Roxbury on arms and legs as a treatment for paralysis. He began four months earlier unable to walk and with no use of his left hand, but after the bee sting method he regained the use of his left arm and can walk a mile, appearing to be improving.
Dana H. Kelsey, superintendent of the Union Indian agency in Oklahoma, has been summoned to Washington to confer with Acting Secretary Pierce about how to use oil payments from pipeline companies in the region. Though companies cut prices to 38 cents per barrel, Pierce has not accepted the reduction and seeks Kelsey’s guidance on possible actions. Arrival date for Kelsey is not set.
Bartlesville Oklahoma reports that Prairie Oil and Gas reduced crude oil price to 35 cents per barrel effective July 21. A company bulletin announced the change at offices across the Southwest.
Pittsburg report details a deadly riot at Pressed Steel Car in Schoenville with seven dead and many wounded. State police and constabulary clear streets, arrest suspects, and prepare for further action as funerals are planned.

In Natchez Mississippi on August 28 state guard companies left for Meadville at 6 15 p m as Sheriff Johnson requested aid amid threats from both factions following the attempted assassination of Chancery Court Clerk Ernest Newman. A previous shooting wounded Newman's arm and renewed fears of bloodshed tied to the Newman and Pritchard factions.
John Murphy, a Tremont City area farmer, was seriously wounded when his brother in law Creighton Strambaugh shot him in the side after Murphy arrived with a package he claimed contained dynamite to blow up the house. Murphy is expected to recover. The incident happened at the old Hertzler place, linked to a 1867 murder mystery.
Indianapolis August 23. Governor relies on proper information and will investigate if a citizen files a formal complaint about a new poolroom opened by Ed Ballard near the Ohio line in Dearborn County. The local authorities reportedly declined to act and Ballard plans indefinite operation.
Peru has not sent an ultimatum to Bolivia on the boundary dispute and reports at the state department indicate both governments move toward settlement with sympathy and good understanding. The Bolivian congress is considering the matter and a peaceful settlement is likely.
