Martin Dewey Follette died in Marietta Ohio at age 84 from paralysis. He was a judge on the Ohio supreme court from 1883 to 1887 and a noted criminologist. The steamer Harry Lee is reported to have sunk near Brandywine Landing about 25 miles south of Memphis. Several persons are reported to have drowned in the incident.
New York August 22 Robert S Lovett head of the Harriman lines was asked what is the matter with the railroad situation He replied There is nothing the matter Well if there is anything the matter with existing conditions it is due entirely to the ice factory of Wall street He declined to discuss reports that railroads had cut their forces.
Lawrenceburg Indiana dispatch reports John W. Bronck 78 and Elizabeth Wolf Hensemann 63 of Dayton Kentucky sought a marriage license. They dodged the required questions and aimed to keep the event out of Cincinnati newspapers, with Bronck showing a rolled stack of bills before the clerk shorted him on change.
Judge A W Doan former colonel of the Seventy ninth Ohio Volunteer Infantry died at his home in Wilmington on August 22. Funeral services are set for 2 o clock Thursday.
