East Liverpool Ohio August 21 A temporary injunction was granted in Common Pleas Court restraining the Board of Education from permitting Bible teaching in the public schools. R H Perry taxpayer filed the suit and the demurrer by City Solicitor Harry Brokaw was overruled. A hearing on making the injunction permanent will occur before the school term opens in September. A Bible course was recently added to the public school program.
Miss Eugenie M. Werk 62, daughter of M. Werk Company founder, died of heart disease yesterday at her niece’s Detroit summer residence. Funeral plans set for August 25 in Cincinnati with services at her Westwood home, Werk Place, and burial at Spring Grove Cemetery.
Adolph S. Oko, librarian at Hebrew Union College in Cincinnati, was among those injured when two tourist trains collided near Granite, Colorado. He suffered lacerations from flying glass. traveling to Cincinnati with his daughter Pearl, aged 19, he had been at the college for eighteen years.
In Salida Colorado authorities announced three separate investigations into the wreck of Denver and Rio Grande trains near Granite. Two firemen were killed and one passenger, Mrs. Ed Hoffman of Omaha Nebraska, remained hospitalized with conditions preventing departure.
Chicago reports Rose Fallon a 17 year old from Evanston killed herself by leaping into the North Branch River after a shingle bob cut her hair and damaged her looks. Her body was recovered today.
A storm driven lightning bolt killed Mrs. Albert Pitts, 20, and her two brothers Julian Webb, 11, and Tony Webb, 10, as they tried to take refuge in a house near Sales City, Georgia. The blast also destroyed a negro church and several farm houses.
The United States battleship Illinois, converted to a training ship for the New York Naval Militia, will be rented for social events at 225 a night. Circulars invite clubs and firms to use the ship for dances, meetings, and shows, with proceeds funding battalion expenses. The ship's history includes launch in 1898 and service in the European squadron, Tampico, and Vera Cruz.

In Zeigler Illinois Aug 21 about 150 miners picketed Bell Zoller mine 1. Two bystanders were bruised when Palmer Pritchfield rammed his car into a woman picket Mrs G V Urina and F Kendrick suffered a hip injury. Guns were visible but no shots fired. Sheriff Henry Dorris and deputies cordoned the area and later 250 miners returned to work without further incident.
New York dispatches report German scientists led by Adolph Miethe and Sturmbreich achieving a ten thousandfold increase in gold yield from mercury via electrical discharge methods. The process yields about one tenth of a gram of gold per kilogram of mercury and is being explored at Siemens Berlin and in Tokyo with independent confirmation by Prof. Haber. Nagaoka notes a platinum-like substance in the gold residue.
R W Martin, veteran Alaskan miner, arrived with twelve ounces of coarse gold from Gold Pan Creek to prove the Cassiar strike in Northern British Columbia is genuine. He presented the exhibit yesterday in Seattle report.

Edward Shannon a 65 year old farmer of Withamsville Ohio died after being struck by his son Virgil Shannon’s truck while stepping toward the rear to move two boys who jumped onto the vehicle. He died en route to General Hospital. Police search for the two boys.
Berlin Aug 23 The Deutsche Allgemeine Zeitung once controlled by the late Hugo Stinnes has been sold by the liquidating banking syndicate for 3 000 000 marks to Walter Salinger and Dr August Weber. The purchase is seen as favoring the Prussian government aiming to use the paper as a non political official organ.
Miss Louisa Fletcher of Indianapolis arrived in New York and denied aborting plans to wed Count Ernest Gottfried von Schmettow of Germany. She said the Count will visit the United States in October for the ceremony, despite earlier European reports of August 1 nuptials.
Iris Tree daughter of Sir Herbert Tree to star as the new nun in The Miracle to be staged by Morris Gest in Chicago Boston Cincinnati and St Louis. Gest announced on arrival from Salzburg where he attended the Mozart festival. He secured permission from Moscow to tour with 95 artists opening in York in December with diverse works.

Albuquerque editor Carl C. Magee shot and killed John B. Lassatter in a Las Vegas New Mexico hotel amid a feud with ex district judge D. J. Leahy. Magee was taken into custody with no charge filed yet. Leahy wounded and Magee awaiting coroner’s verdict. Magee, 52, had a long political career and earlier legal troubles including 1923 libel conviction and pardons.
In Yonkers eight children and two elderly women were saved from a fire at the New York Guild for the Jewish Blind. Misa Bertha Bonnenberg, 20, a blind inmate, guided everyone to safety using her familiarity with the building.
Paris reports Greek legation confirms plague cases at Piraeus with five cases three deaths. Three more cases found aboard ships from Alexandria as authorities note the situation.
