Major William Andrews of the Salvation Army received a telegram announcing General Booth’s death. He was promoted to glory today and was praised for bearing up bravely with his family at his bedside. His son is expected to succeed and was mentioned in a sealed envelope.
Men among the injured in accident at Indianapolis.
A bloated stand at Governor Marshall notification ceremonies in Indianapolis collapsed during Alton B Parker’s address injuring about seventy five people, with notable figures like Charles W. Fairbanks and Winfield T. Durbin among those present. Colonel Joseph M. Rice of Cincinnati described crawling from debris and helping others as ambulances and police restored order.
Near Leon, about 500 Nicaraguan troops guarding the city were killed after surrender to insurgents. American Marines aided defense of Managua during a four day battle, with navy personnel from Annapolis and Panama helping to defend the capital. Communication with outside world has been cut since the Leon uprising.

G Battle Creek Mich Aug 20 Henry Smith a laborer fell 185 feet yesterday afternoon amid 26 feet of scaffolding and 5 feet of cement debris. He landed in a bed of fresh cement shot out of sight and then struggled to surface unhurt.
Republican state campaign may open in Columbus during the second week of September. Harry M. Daugherty says Columbus is ideal for old soldiers to attend and patriotic ties with General Robert B. Brown. A Taft endorsement letter from Edward L. Taylor Jr. supports party loyalty demands. Daugherty plans talks with Hamilton County leaders in Cincinnati and envisions two meetings to accommodate workers.
Paris August 20 Maurine Ferenz an old sailor demonstrated a portable underwater apparatus allowing ten to twenty minute dives. A mouth piece with a breath escape connects to a bicycle pump operated by an assistant. Officials and doctors called the device a remarkable success.
Twenty four inmates in Dayton County Jail mutinied and overpowered the jailer to avoid cleaning walls. Sheriff Huffman and deputies retook control with armed show of force and confined the prisoners in solitary cells after the uprising.
