Two auto pilots meet death at Indianapolis track
At Indianapolis Motor Speedway on August 19 two lives ended in a 250 mile race. William A Bourque and his mechanician Harry Holcomb died when their Knox car crashed into the fence. Bar ney Oldfield set a mile mark in 0 43 1 10 and Louis Chevrolet drove ten miles in 8 56 4 10. Robert Burman won the race. The accident prompted the American Automobile Association to demand track repairs and safer conditions.

Pittsburg August 19 three thousand strikers lined the Ohio river as the Pressed Steel Car plant at McKee's Rocks landed fifty more imported workers from the steamer P M Pfeis. Shots were fired with no injuries reported. An imported worker was arrested for window breaking, claimed to be trying to exit the plant. Strikers say guards blocked passage for the new workers and clashed on the O Donavan bridge. Troopers distributed bread and provisions to striker families. In New York a riot at Thirteen Street and Broadway drew arrests.
