Minnesota reports credit Pillsbury with arranging a 1 000 000 bushel premium deal and disposing of 1 500 000 elsewhere boosting weekly shipments. He allegedly earned 50 000 in one day as F H Peavey sold 700 000 bushels. Local elevator men and Minneapolis traders benefited from the market swing.
Kansas City traders report a large crop spurring heavy wheat trading. Most brokers profited from the boom while speculators faced losses as prices were expected to fall. One firm claims $46,000 in clearing for the previous week.
The price surge in wheat last week has yielded large profits for Omaha grain men and interior state speculators. In four days the ex-Gov Boyd commission rooms swelled with traders cashing deals, including a Lincoln banker who earned about 25000 through an Omaha firm. Many expect wheat to rise above a dollar before any decline.
Market dispatch from Duluth reports that local traders on the Board of Trade did not profit from the wheat rally. While outsiders reportedly made sums, B B Baker notes his customers were all short throughout the advance. A Pillsbury connection is said to know little of a big wheat strike, though he has long shown bullish interest.
New York wheat surged to a fresh yearly peak then retraced amid mixed European signals. September rose to 95 1/4 cents before sliding to 94 1/2, with December at 92 3/4 cents. late curb trades nudged September back to 94 3/4. Foreign selling and profit taking dominated, while export orders remained light at about 100,000 bushels.
The bulls faded this morning and aided the price break as traders await a revival of European demand for American wheat. Confidence centers on dollar September wheat by month end, with bears restrained. Total future sales reached 8,606,000 bushels.
The Minneapolis Journal reports a sixth annual estimate by H V Jones on spring wheat across Minnesota North Dakota and South Dakota. Total area eleven million five hundred thousand acres with average yield about 10.2 bushels per acre and total around 119.7 million bushels. Weather and pest concerns may lower quality and total yield even further if rains continue.
In Columbus Ohio a minister sent 648 91 to Franklin County Treasurer Barron as conscience money for past underreporting personal property. Barron returned 13 20 of the excess due to tax-rate differences, and kept the rest as a sign of honesty.
Indianaplis sheriff to arrest Noah Baney and Guy Van Tassel as they leave the prison on term expiration for involvement in the Hinshaw murder case. Whitney to remain jailed until October. Baney’s detailed confession is used to pursue murder indictments without pardons.
Senator Camden's private train derailed at Erbacon Lewis County while heading to Clarksburg for a contempt trial. Fireman Clarence Peck was killed, engineer Frank Smith badly injured, and five cars plus the engine of the special were smashed. The senator suffered bruises but escaped serious injury.
Minnie Stewart, one of the girls tied to Ford’s confession of the Detricks murder, is missing since Wednesday. Deerwester allegedly confessed and implicated nine others. A dog reacted to a life size portrait of Mr. Detrick as townsfolk relay rumors amid ongoing inquiries.
Indianapolis officers reached Michigan City to await release deadlines for Baney and Van Tassel. They will be arrested on highway robbery charges at the gate and a Marion County Court information will lead to Hendricks County Grand Jury for possible indictment in the murder of Mrs. Hinshaw. Parker Hinshaw's attorney expects indictment.
Charles Lace, an elderly Concord resident near Painesville, Ohio, was bound and burned with a lamp by four masked burglars seeking money. Finding no valuables, the attackers left, posting a notice on a neighbor’s tree. Lace was not found until the next morning and is seriously injured.
Mrs. L. E. Smith of Ashley was struck by a bicycle and badly hurt in Delaware county. At about the same time her husband suffered serious injuries in a separate runaway accident in another part of the county.
In Evansville Indiana on August 19 prisoners in the County Jail assault Jailer Fred Schmidt and three trusties during a failed delivery. Schmidt threw his keys from a barred office window. A burglary suspect fled to the roof but was recaptured. Police and fire units responded to restore order and rescue those endangered.
In Xenia Ohio on Main Street this evening ex convict William Shamblin wounded two by revolver shots from Officer William Charters and O A Guy stabbed in the abdomen by Shamblin. Shamblin likely to die while Guy non dangerous. Charters wounded Shamblin with two shots after a knife attack during a parade of colored Masons.
Richmond Indiana story reports sek Small a colored man was fined and jailed after conviction for giving liquor to minors including a three year old boy who became drunk and nearly seized by spasms. He also offered whisky to an eleven year old girl while the parents were away.
In Columbus on August 19 Squire Morrow, without office gas, performs a marriage in an elevator due to a closed Marsetti Building as gas lights fail. Bride and groom I. K. Miller and Mary Huffman join the improvised ceremony with several onlookers and the officiant sharing a kiss as part of the fee.
Michael Foley of Cincinnati was brought to Washington Court House Ohio on charges of complicity in a burglary. He was bound over to court and jailed for lack of bail. Foley had been released after statements by Floyd Walker and Henry Hall who insisted Foley knew nothing of the burglary. After release Foley went to Cincinnati to dispose of stolen goods, but was arrested again.
Portsmouth Ohio August 19 The Portsmouth Foundry and Machine Works announce a shift to round the clock operation due to a surge in contracts. This will be the first sustained night and day schedule in many years.
Henry Smith, a Rockcastle County convict, writes Governor Bradley confessing to killing prison guard Pomp Ball. Smith says Morgan Johnson is serving life for the same murder and that two other convicts named Roy and Patterson were also implicated. His confession arrives while he guards a gang.
In Silver City on August 19 the Black Jack gang attacked rancher Shorty Miller at Mule Creek wounding him likely fatally. A posse pursued and encountered the bandits on Dry Creek where Edward Moss was killed and Elgin Holt reported missing. Officers from Grant and Socorro Counties chased them. motive tied to information leading to Tom Ketchum's death.
The 12 year old Whipple girl death at West Jefferson remains unexplained. Ross Dennison, alleged by many to have shot the girl accidentally, persists in innocence with unusual calm. Mrs Taylor, the foster mother, shows signs of insanity and asks for carbolic acid as a hair treatment but is denied by deputies.
Seven year old Wille Clarke, son of Peter Clarke near Blakesley Indiana, leaped from a barn using an umbrella as a parachute. He plunged to the ground and struck a wagon, suffering fatal injuries.
Terre Haute Ind August 19 An infant buried alive by its mother was found in a wooded spot near Riley by Detective McRae. Mrs W H Thompson confessed she and George Cotton buried the child after attempting to abandon it in Paris. The baby, rescued and alive, was taken to Dr L C Griffiths for care.
Boston August 19 Colonel Frank Dunn business manager for John L Sullivan announces Sullivan will run as an independent for Mayor against Josiah Quincy. Campaign plans include barbecues parades trolley parties for South End girls and sporting carnivals to woo voters. Sullivan previously supported Quincy but now opposes him following a tense Henley ovation incident.
Ligonier Indiana hosts the Meese Matrimonial Association second annual reunion with about 5000 attendees. Rev Meese presides as 5000 couples join in a grand march after noon basket dinner and addresses by Rev Hartman Mrs Mack and others. Resolutions favoring easier divorce laws are adopted. Reverend Guilbert and Reverend Hirsh spoke in the afternoon. Rev Meese receives an ovation at the march’s end.
Robert Marshall tracked and shot George Darrell after he killed four turkeys and fled into the woods. Darrell was hit multiple times by 236 birdshot, collapsed, recovered enough to be captured the next day, and is stated to recover.
Rev Rutherford Douglas of this county concluded a revival in the mush room of E J Curley’s distillery at Camp Nelson Kentucky The distillery is idle and the mash tubs were removed Simple board seats were set up and the audience room held nearly 50 people This was the first revival of its kind in Kentucky.
Rev. John Walstein of Concord Christian Church is acquitted by a church jury in a verdict that the shooting of Standiford girl was accidental. The Standiford father supported Walstein and helped prevent criminal charges. Walstein plans to resume meetings tomorrow night in Walstein’s defense.
Nine year old Orvil Triplet, son of A L Triplet of Waterloo area, was struck and killed by a Lake Shore passenger train at 1 PM while attempting to cross after a freight train passed. The collision occurred on a parallel track as the passenger train approached from the opposite direction.
Albert Voters, condemned for murder, escaped Kanawha County jail after months under guard. Sheriff McVey leads a large posse with city police tracking him from Cotton Hill via freight train toward the west. Governor Atkinson prepared a clemency decision but deferred it to Saturday afternoon amid flight fears.
Growing coal strike faces weak turnout as authorities swiftly quell marches. Officials report minimal disruptions while workers reiterate demands for safer conditions and higher pay amid rising tensions.

Output totals about 5,000,000 tons yearly. A seven member committee launched the campaign and an assessment fund was planned to cover strike costs. Colonel Read said operators would use replacements if workers refuse to work.
President Ratchford calls a Pittsburg operator claim to resume work with Gatling guns and Pinkerton men a bluff. He argues nonunion workers will not be contained, stockades cannot be built high enough, and public opinion will thwart violence or forced settlements.
Unknown assailants hidden in brush along the C L W track at Barton attacked a north bound coal train last night. As the train passed the spot a volley of stones struck the train crew members visible along the route. Continues on second page.
