Philadelphia fire at the Point Breeze oil works of Atlantic Refining Company kills four men aged 21 to 35 and injures many others. The blaze, still burning, threatens the entire three million dollar plant as five tanks of 20 000 barrels each and three pump houses are destroyed. Names include William Hanifan Hugh McClune James Mulhearn and Frank Jordan.
Toronto report notes Mrs Ambrose Small doubts the Des Moines discovery of her husband. She says no notification arrived from Harry or Brophy and Toronto officials have heard nothing official. Reward totals $65,000 for alive return or body recovery, extended to Sep 1, 1921.
Newport officials ordered gambling dens to shut down within days following a hold-up at 207 West Fourth Street that netted $900. Madisonville Ky Aug 14 Miss Beth Hoffman a young woman candidate for Circuit Court Clerk on the Democratic ticket received the largest number of votes cast in Hopkins County for any one candidate at the recent primary. Her opponent was a man with fifteen years in the office. November opposition is Mrs L L Weir the Republican candidate who ran unopposed.

Congress approved a $555 million tax cut while the period also notes the dividend decision affecting American Sugar Refining Company weighing against the positives.
Three masked men armed with pistols robbed Allen Mann at four in the afternoon on Florence avenue near Eden Park. They forced him to surrender a purse with 26.50 while a 500 person crowd watched an amateur game nearby. The bandits fled into Eden Park woods after warning him to go home.
Edwin McDonough aged 26 of Loveland Ohio was struck by an automobile and seriously injured after pushing his girlfriend from the path of a car approaching from the rear. He suffered a fractured skull and other injuries as police hunt a fleeing driver.
The New York bound fishing schooner Louise Howard ran aground in a half gale near Beaufort Bar. Coast guard rescued all ten crew members as the ship faced heavy seas. The vessel was set for a shark fishing expedition and carried nearly a ton of dynamite.
