Edward Armacrest was bitten on the leg by a rattlesnake while cutting timber in Greene Township Adame County. George Brown nearby killed the snake, which had fourteen rattles and a button.
James Ford an eight year old Elwood resident was attacked by an enraged bull while salting cows. He suffered severe injuries as the animal gore and attack shocked onlookers and authorities.
John Sinnamon of Columbus died in Franklin last night after being run over by a train on the Louisville division of the Pennsylvania lines. The incident occurred in the city, and authorities are reporting the death as accidental.
Hartford City Indiana reports Mrs W M Stahl a prominent W C T U organizer for Alaska territory along with her son Eugene Stahl and daughter in law aboard the steamer Mexico. No word has been received raising fears they are lost. Her husband serves as United States Express Co agent at Hartford City.
A stranger on a road tried to shoot Perry Anthony's seven year old son in Bowling Green Kentucky. The child was wounded in the leg but not seriously hurt. The shooter fled and Anthony denies having enemies, leaving the assailant unidentified.
In Valparaiso Indiana Silas Beam an elderly resident age eighty died suddenly in distress. He raved that someone was trying to poison him. Relatives asked the State's Attorney and the coroner ordered a post mortem.
In New York over the past ten days highly starving people have been found and sent to hospitals. Among the worst cases are Nathan Rampel his wife and two children found August six and too weak to move Mamie McCarthy who died August six in Brooklyn John George Crook found August eight after three days without food with eighty eight dollars in checks but unable to cash them Fred Raper eighteen taken to Bellevue August nine after five days without food and dying Jaques Robert collapsed near Ninth avenue and Thirty seventh street and is hospitalized in the French Benevolent Society hospital with a skeletal frame from hunger.
Noah Baney, the confessed murderer of Mrs. Hinshaw, was moved back to Michigan City Prison after a staged scene visit last Wednesday. Grand Hotel exposure and public viewings were used to locate the three other murder suspects. Terms of the other convicts expire within a week, prompting Hendricks County Grand Jury action.
Fire in Ironwood Michigan destroyed four buildings. John Ramota and family fled. Henry Lensol, newly opened candy store owner, was accused of starting the blaze. A mob threatened to lynch him. police intervened and escorted him to jail. It is alleged he confessed to being hired to ignite fires for insurance money. W B Wells of Trafalgar a Johnson County grain dealer used forged bills calling for 700 bushels of wheat to raise money for a trip to Alaska. He drew 500 dollars on each bill. The wheat never arrived and Wells now admits the bills are forgeries and says he started with the proceeds toward the Klondike. He promises repayment if he strikes it rich.
Cadiz Ohio Aug 13 The wool trade in Harrison County proves tariff gains for growers. C M Hogg Son bought 35000 pounds of wool from local farmers at 22 1/2 cents per pound, versus 15 to 18 cents paid for similar wool last year.
Butler Indiana report says Robbins general store at Metz had its safe blown open last night. The robbers obtained about 125 dollars in cash and 35 dollars in jewelry.
Actress Langtry files for divorce while reports say her proposed marriage to Esterhazy prompted the action. Court filings indicate marital disputes and personal scandal drive the case.
New York dispatch reports Edward Langtry will sue for absolute divorce from Lily Langtry and name royal and social figures as co respondents. He denies paternity of their fourteen year old daughter Jeanne and alleges Mrs Langtry’s Mediterranean cruise with a guards officer as grounds.
William Miller, key eyewitness to the Colson killing, was slain in a clash with Clark's Circus personnel after testifying in John Dugan's murder case. Dugan alleged Miller fired the fatal shot. Miller died after a half hour. Clark the shooter was wounded and fled as bloodhounds hunted him.
Barbourville depot Kentucky August 13. No verdict in the Dugan murder case as the jury remains deliberating since Thursday at 5 p.m. The general opinion is that the jury will not agree.
