Former Senator La Forrest R. Andrews of Ironton spoke to sixteen hundred Ohio Penitentiary inmates in the prison chapel delivering an impassioned farewell address. He, a bribery convict, said his voice would rise for the downtrodden and urged prisoners to conduct themselves honorably, while noting many prisoners were convicted on technicalities.

Grace Dumont and Ernest Sanders, lifelong neighbors, kept their marriage secret for over a year. In a downtown title guaranty building, Grace gave birth to a baby boy while employed as a stenographer. the couple later revealed they wed in Chicago on July 29, 1912.
Pauline the 13 year old pug died in Winnetka after exposure to Lake Michigan climate and a severed cold leading to pneumonia. Three Chicago physicians could not halt the illness. Mrs N B Wilson owner of Pauline is prostrated by the loss and will return the body to Los Angeles for burial in the fall.

Mattie Greiner drowns at Port Richmond. companions detained. Market Street and utilities disrupted. Broad and Filbert tower shifts. parks devastated. police and emergency services mobilized.
A Marissa Illinois rooster ate a long wheat straw and became stuck. A hen approached, gripped the unmasticated end, and pulled the straw free. The relieved bird then chased the rival rooster.
Special Dispatch reports Peter Colon of 9340 Marquette avenue fined a neighbor’s cow on the spot after it browsed in Colon’s yard. John Murray of 9344 Marquette street was arrested following the dispute heard by Municipal Judge Sullivan of the South Chicago Court. Colon said he milked the cow to obtain his morning coffee.
Chicago August 40 Special A large dog blocked entry to the Wa Kansia Avenue livery and boarding stable. Firefighters attempted to enter but the dog sprang at them. Fifty horses perished or were destroyed by fire and smoke. Thirty five were rescued but six were shot due to severe burn injuries. Loss estimated at $80,000 plus feed and forty wagons burned.
Washington reports say replacing steam shovels with dredges in the Culebra Cut could have the canal open to shipping by December. dredging capacity rises to 1,500,000 cubic yards monthly as Goethals mobilizes fifteen dredges while engineers blast away cliff tops with high pressure jets to speed the waterway.
Five men ride in Louis Beilstein's car when it overturned in a ditch near Wyandotts Michigan killing three and fatally injuring one. The dead include Louis E Beilstein former Toledo Railways general manager and James Pross of Cleveland superintendent of the Northern Ohio Traction Company. Howard Davis of Toledo and J F Collins of Jackson Michigan are among the injured with Collins fatally hurt and Wickshire of Mansfield seriously hurt.
London reports Dr. A. L. Soresi of New York claims imminent human limb graft experiments within a month. He cites successful animal grafts and plans to test on two New Yorkers, one well known and one in humble means, using arms from recently deceased individuals. The results would be announced by the Academy of Medicine.
In Empalme an unexpected bombardment followed Didier Masson’s engine cut over Guaymas Harbor. The French aviator landed in the Mexican side of the railroad settlement and opened fire for an hour and a half with guns and shore batteries aiding. Civilian casualties feared as noncombatants flee and reports say Masson escaped.
John Lind, Wilson's personal representative, has arrived in Mexico City to assess the Mexican situation. White House and Foreign Relations Committee members express concern over policy clarity while supporting the president's aim to resolve the crisis peacefully without bloodshed.
