Heat over ten days in St Louis causes 130 deaths and 840 prostrations, with 23 sunstroke certificates issued on Saturday. Officials note most victims are adults and that cooler weather hopes to ease the crisis.
Special Dispatch reports Chicago endures an eighth day of excessive heat with 164 deaths by 4 pm, including 38 from sunstroke. temperatures topped 93 at 3 pm while scenes of 9 West Side tenements show families and horses suffering in heat.
In Greater New York about 100 people have died from the heat with many more prostrated. Ambulances patrol, street cars halted, and outdoor work suspended as factories close. A long list of identified deceased follows, including ages and names such as CHARLES SWANSON 40, PETER BRADY 38, SAMUEL PEEKMAN 8, MARTIN MCFADDEN 48, MARIE REILLY 51, ELSIE SULLIVAN 36, JAMES FARRELL 45, LOUIS SCHUMANN 82, JENNIE OBRIEN 20, CHARLES PRYOR, EDWARD MAY, and others with various ages, some marked unknown.
A catalog of numerous individuals listed with ages ranging from teens to seventies, tied to locations including Brooklyn, Staten Island, Jersey City, Newark, and general references to New Jersey. The fragment presents a roster-like mix of surnames and ages without clear event context or actions.

Heat in Toledo Ohio over twenty four hours led to two deaths Otto Hohmann caretaker Loyal Yacht Club and Edward Larkin Pettisville Michigan. Larkin collapsed on Cherry street bridge. Five others seized with illness, two critical including John Henry Lake Shore engineer and John Moehler market gardener.

Populists replace J B Freeman with Morrow if needed as Democrats may endorse him.
In Columbus Ohio on August 10 a County Court heard a case where guardian ward Merion Jr refused funds to educate his ward Henrietta Merion. The petition by Louisa Merion claims Henrietta has a half interest in an estate valued at $100 000 under her grandfather William Merion. it seeks court consent to education funding from the guardian.
In Catlettsburg Kentucky the Boyd County Democracy met to name delegates for the Ninth District Congressional Convention at Maysville to oppose Republican Sam J. Pugh. A free silver delegate argued no gold bug should become a delegate, prompting heated exchanges.
At the Cabell County Democratic Judicial Convention in Huntington WV August 10 a fight over a temporary chairman led to a riot with bottles knives and guns displayed. Cary Alderson was knocked from the stand and many were injured as a panic spread. The Marcum faction held a separate convention and nominated Judge Harvey. A post convention bar fight left three badly hurt.
Mrs. Florence Frost, guest at the Auditorium, reports the theft of several diamond rings in a cab on Saturday night. She claims to be the divorced wife of Raymond Frost of Bayonne and seeks her adopted 10-year-old son in Chicago. Police report she was intoxicated and injured, with rings lost after leaving with cabman and companion John Ramm.
Washington Aug 10 Maj Dunwood the weather forecaster scanned maps tonight for relief from the heat wave now gripping the nation. Ohio Valley and lower lake region saw a slight cooling from thunderstorms while the Mississippi Valley reported a small fall with the mercury near 92. Dunwood warned no widespread cool spell before Wednesday at the earliest though local storms may bring temporary relief at some points.

Akron Aug 10 Mrs Wm H Rothrock died after heat collapse Saturday. Ervin J Rayburn remains in critical condition after also being prostrated today. Thermometer registered % degrees, ten degrees cooler than yesterday.
Ten laborers digging a sewer trench in Columbus were overcome by heat and the work was halted at noon. Local crews aided the men and conditions were assessed for safety.

Osmond faces about 2000 in damage, 1000 insured. Police and detectives search for the arsonists who bored holes in whisky barrels before ignition.

Five persons drowned when a small row boat capsized off Bridesburg in the Delaware River. Among the victims was Charles Minnick of Cincinnati. Three women and two men started rowing around 7 PM. a sudden squall sank the boat and all but the men perished before help could reach them.
