In Cincinnati a council controversy centers on Ed Kellogg and Wes Rippey over a $300 payment tied to selling land for Highland school. Jacob Kihm’s affidavit is cited, with Rippey accusing Kellogg of public treasury pilferage while Kellogg denies wrongdoing.
In Marietta Ohio an heir of Admiral John Paul Jones has filed suit for about 1,000,000 acres near the city. Mrs Combault of Paris claims a deed of trust for the land, given by other Jones heirs, as Attorney A Dewey Follett initiates proceedings to obtain possession. County records show the Admiral once owned the land in question.
Acapulco endured another strong quake yesterday morning causing widespread fear but no fatalities or major property damage was reported. The tremor was confirmed by reports reaching Mexico City.
LONGJUMEAU France Aug 9 Eleven persons were killed and thirty injured today when a passenger train collided with a freight train. Authorities investigated the cause as rescue workers tended the wounded at the scene.
Berlin reports Greece will directly refuse to renounce Crete in its upcoming note to Turkey and will refer the dispute to the protective powers. The move aims to avert conflict while powers discuss the issue, with Germany and Austria staying neutral unless the powers propose a peaceful settlement.

In Chicago Antonio Spizziarri and wife Anna killed each other after locking two children in a bedroom and barricading exits. Anna died from gunshot and stab wounds. Antonio was shot twice and likely died. Police found revolvers and a knife near the scene.
In Lexington August 9 Cassius M. Clay, former Kentucky constitutional convention president and longtime Bourbon county tobacco grower, attacked the pooling movement as an assault on liberty and a path to violence. He cited misrepresentation by Equity speakers, recalled factory-like politics, and urged more buyers rather than embargo and monopoly. He warned of disorder from past actions and urged protecting farmers' rights while opposing forced pooling.
Mrs Mary Castle the California woman who shot lawyer William B Craig in a Waldorf Astoria corridor appeared with her brother Captain Henry Harrison Scott A 8 A at a preliminary examination in New York. Her attorney sought a one day adjournment so Scott could discuss the case with the prisoner’s lawyers. Captain Scott arrived from the South and met Craig briefly after the adjournment. Castle was later released on bail.
Mrs. Theodore Roosevelt and children Archie Quentin and Ethel arrived in Paris from Avignon. They were met by Arthur Bailly-Blanchard and naval and military attaches who escorted them to their new apartment residence for the Paris visit.
