Senator M A Hanna urged Urbana Chautauqua listeners that strikes are not necessary and promoted the Civic Federation as a vehicle to settle labor disputes amicably with employers. He framed the issue as moral and economic, recounting the Tuscarawas Valley miners strike and advocating nonviolent, constructive methods.
In Reval Russia on August 6 Emperor William of Germany arrived by ship and met Czar Nicholas II aboard the Standart. The two rulers exchanged cordial welcomes and held a private conference on the gangway before the Standart returned to port with both sovereigns aboard.
Rochester report describes Theresa McDougall, known as Jimmie McDougall, leader of a band of tramps and robbers. The former Cleveland actress was captured by Sheriff Salyerds and deputies after posing in a brigand costume. She claimed stage work at Park and Dewey Theaters in Cleveland and said she married Max Denhart.
Spokane dispatch reports Tracey the Oregon outlaw was cornered by posse near Fellowes Washington. After a two day siege in Eddy Ranch country he crawled wounded into a wheat field and shot himself in the head to escape capture. Private citizens who trailed him receive rewards while guard action blocks relic hunters.
Washington August 6. It is stated that Bellamy Storer, United States Minister to Spain, will likely be posted to Rome rather than Berlin. President Roosevelt may favor George L. Von Meyer or Henry White for Berlin, while Storer is expected to receive the Rome ambassadorship despite earlier talks.
Mason City dispatch reports William J. Bryan addressing an audience of over 2 000 at the Clear Lake Assembly. He clarified a quoted interview saying he was not seeking to lead the Democratic party again unless the party chose him and he could not honorably refuse.
London reports on August 6 that it is probable the Earl of Dudley will succeed Sir Key Cadogan as Lord Lieutenant of Ireland. If confirmed the appointment would place Dudley in the highest imperial civil role in Ireland.

In Tennessee near La Follette on August six a seven year old boy fatally shot his five year old brother after the younger refused to give a tomato. Local authorities report the incident occurred at Ira Bolten's home and the motive centers on a dispute over the fruit.
At a Daw son Springs trestle in Hopkins County about 2 30 pm an excursion train nearly struck a group of under 20 year old girls. Two, Miss Lucy Stevenson and Miss Johnnie Smith, were crushed under wheels. Injured are Miss Annie Nichols Hawes Miss Edith Stevenson and Miss Lena Flint. They were attending the Illinois Central annual employee picnic.
