Official dispatches report a clash near Potam between Yaquis and Mexican troops led by General Lorenzo Torres. Sixty Yaquis killed, Torres wounded, reinforcements totaling about 3,000 troops en route from Mexico City and Mazatlan to intensify operations as Diaz orders a sharp decisive war.
Aug 4 Mexico report says Yaqui Indians along the river rise in arms joining companions in the woods and mountains. Frontiersman Jack Ramsey and photographer Miller killed. several sloops attacked and burned. Paredes killed and body found. Romero family captured. telegraph line cut. reports of Maldonado and Hale unclear. Yaquis capture prisoners including a priest and three nuns.
Special dispatch from Casas Grandes Mexico says four American miners arrived from the Upper Yaqui River area reporting about 200 American miners scattered through Yaqui country facing imminent danger as Yaqui bands grow bolder. Tom Harvell says 5 000 Yaqui braves threaten to massacre whites. 50 000 Mexican troops may be needed. Two Mexican Cavalry regiments head toward Casas Grandes to drive them from mountain strongholds.
French Foreign Minister Delcasse arrived in St Petersburg from Paris to reciprocate Count Muravieff’s visit. He met the Russian minister this afternoon and will dine with him tonight. Ambassador Lannes de Montebelle plans to return the visit Monday as Delcasse stays five days.
The Queen's suggestion for an extra week's holiday for Eton College students to celebrate Her Majesty's eightieth birthday was overruled by the college governors who decided the extension was undesirable and refused it.

In Port au Prince Haiti Aug 4 armed police violated the American Legation while seeking to arrest M Du Vivier a newspaper man. The American Minister Mr Powell intends to demand full reparation though particulars were not disclosed and the situation remains serious.
Linant Winston Leonard Spencer Chily asks the Associated Press to deny reports that his mother Lady Randolph Churchill is engaged to Lieutenant G F M Cornwallis-West. The couple has not been seen since the engagement was reported and friends discuss the matter.
In Warsaw Indiana a farmer Andrew Perkey reports his three children showing hydrophobia symptoms without dog bites. A family dog went mad in the summer kitchen and was killed after biting walls. A splinter pulled from a spit-log wall by a child later led to hydrophobia symptoms in the girl and linked to the others.
Friends urge Coebel in Dancer to step back as the revolt gains strength and confidence wanes threatening a defeat.

Sigmund Albert of Lancaster resigns from the West Point Military Academy amid reports he faced persistent cadet harassment for being Hebrew. He stood high in his class but could not withstand prejudice. Congressman Brosius, who appointed him, regrets the departure. A new competitive examination will be held August 16 to choose a successor.
Barbourville Kentucky August 4 1900 jury returned a not guilty verdict in the Commonwealth versus Ed Brunk for the murder of James Beard Hicks facing the same indictment likely to be moved to the next circuit court term.
In Vanceburg Kentucky on August 4 a Hast-board passenger train struck John Irvin a retired bachelor of means aged eighty three. He crossed near the depot as the engine approached and stepped back onto the main track causing fatal injuries. Irvin was known for generosity to tramps and had a record of paying penalties for sheltering them.
Governor Candler made a 4 am trip to Newnan to save John Mullens, a Black suspect accused of assaulting Mrs. Cook near Senoia. He commanded the Newnan Guards to escort Mullens to Atlanta for safekeeping, avoiding a mob at Coweta County jail. Mullens was later jailed in Fulton County.
In Chicago on August 4 Judge Windes of the Appellate Court holding as a Circuit Judge decided that striking workmen may use persuasion to induce others to quit or work for a company under strike. They may visit the factory and use peaceable means to deter further work for the firm or draw workers away. Fraser & Chalmers obtained an injunction against the Iron Molders' Union after a June 21 strike where substitutes were hired.
Southampton August 4 Richard Croker will be among passengers aboard the American Line steamer St Paul bound for New York leaving tomorrow.
At the Interparliamentary Conference in Christiania the motion by Samuel J. Barrows and Richard Bartholdt for immunity of private property at sea was adopted unanimously. The session closed with plans to hold next year’s meeting in Paris, following President McKinley’s reference to the issue.
In Port Clinton a teen groom Joseph Newcomb wed widow Martha Lodway age 62. The ceremony by Squire Schoerger drew few friends. Newcomb has three children, youngest nearly 30. The couple plan to reside in Port Clinton and are noted for their social standing.
William Mercer sues Bowling Green Ohio in Common Pleas Court seeking 10000 for injuries from a January fall on a defective Palmer avenue sidewalk alleging permanent damage.
In Muncie Indiana on August 4 during the Buffalo Bill Wild West show street parade a collision with the street railway sparked a near riot. Manager Baldwin tried to force parade route a police revolver was drawn amid tense standoff until restraint from showmen kept violence from erupting.
New York reports Anthony J. Drexel, son of the late A. J. Drexel, may follow William Waldorf Astor by pledging loyalty to Queen Victoria. The Drexels, famed for American wealth earned honestly, now enjoy London life, considering England as a permanent home. They summer at Norrey's Castle Isle of Wight and entertained notable figures including the Duchess of Somerset during Cowes week.
