The Chicago Stock Exchange closed indefinitely as Moore Brothers collapse of Diamond Match and New York Biscuit triggers a bankable rescue. New York August 4 Moore Bros failure is not expected to disrupt Diamond Match and Biscuit operations say managers George P Johnson and other executives. Banks hold little Moore Bros or Diamond Match paper while some West and East loans exist. Market talk suggests the bust may slightly depress U S markets and London securities.
Miss Kate Barber aged 40 sister of C C Barber president of the Diamond Match Company died at her Akron home this morning after a period of mental instability. She had been brought from Newburg Hospital in Cleveland.
Akron observers say the Moore Brothers Chicago collapse will not affect Diamond Match Company as the Barber factories in the city may see a reduced fee quotation on stock. The comment frames the incident as non disruptive to Diamond Match operations.

A house fire near Dodge and Woodcock quarries endangers a seven child family as two youngsters suffer smoke exposure. Oil-saturated neighbor James Woodcock’s residence also caught fire. both contractors deny union availability amid lingering crude oil hazards. Rumors of lynching swirl if suspects are caught.
Li Hung Chang the Ching envoy visited the House of Commons in London, wearing a yellow robe and attending the debate on the catch agricultural rates bill. Akron Ohio August 4 Robert Chalmers an 18 year old was struck by an Erie freight train in the late afternoon and severely injured necessitating amputation of a limb doctors say he will likely survive though badly hurt in the incident.

Lewis Geo. Clark, prototype of George Harris in Uncle Tom's Cabin, collapsed in Lexington, overwhelmed by heat and weeks of starvation. He wanders daily seeking food, received charity tonight, and refuses the Poor House, threatening death by starvation.
Jefferson City Missouri August 4 Richard P Bland was nominated for Congress by the Democrats of the Eighth District this afternoon by acclamation.
A Columbus dispatch reports a startling discovery today in the George Iden bribery case. The Newark ex-senator’s papers include an indictment alleging he offered fifty dollars to House Clerk John Malloy, implying possible new avenues for release or appeal.
Brown strikers voted unanimously today to ask the Central Labor Union to call a sympathy strike but leaders including Robert Bandlow and C Eisemann opposed such action. Manager L M Howe blames the silver platform for collapsing municipal bond demand and choking financing, despite assets more than double liabilities.

Baltimore and Ohio brakeman William Giblin stepped from his train and was knocked under another moving engine with both legs amputated above the knees and he is not expected to recover.
Mrs. George Bush was captured early this morning in Newark Ohio while attempting to burn the home of M. B. Roush and was bound over to court. Her husband left her two years ago taking her funds after a string of failed ventures. She set fire to the house and the property had recently been sold from an executorship.
In Hicksville Ohio Aug 4 a would be assassin of Thomas Hall and son Howard Hunter Town was captured by a farmer and townspeople after an all night pursuit by 500 people and bloodhounds. The suspect, found near a swamp by St Joe, hid in a cowshed on J Bottz farm, fired on pursuers, and was knocked down by Sol Barney before being taken to Fort Wayne by Indiana Sheriff.
John B. Cheetham proprietor of the Central Hotel in Harrison was found dead in bed Tuesday morning. He had retired the night before in his usual health. His wife moved about the room to avoid waking him and was not discovered until his stepdaughter Pearl Meade entered. He weighed pounds and was about forty six years old.
T Willowy Steep of Cincinnati, renowned as the Commercial Tribune Tramp, reached Rome Georgia with his dog Alberto after a long journey. He appeared tired but was buoyed by a hot supper and generous applause from admirers. He has not yet agreed to perform further engagements.

Mamie Murphy, 20, from Brookville, traveled to Muncie on the early train, bought chloroform and laudanum, and swallowed poison in a dense woods after a family dispute over cooking corn on the cob. Joseph Lindsey and Will Russell followed. a note to the public stated she had no home or relatives. The coroner ordered an inquest as she remained unconscious.
Klingen Smith fell from the top of a moving Ohio River road train near Millwood at noon and died within two hours. Samuel Dawson, also aboard, had his leg cut off while switching at New Haven an hour later. he survives with a wife and family in Pittsburgh.

Fred Herbruck and Isaac Harter oppose free coinage of silver and may join independents.
