New York August 3 The offices of Charles B Dillingham producer say injuries Fred Stone, comedian hurt in a Groton Connecticut airplane crash, will not affect his stage work under contract. Doctors at the hospital reported progress and the producer's office provided an update.
Lebanon Colorado August 3. County Prosecutor C Donald Dilatush says a note from a WCTU delegation reading Convictions are expected led to a motion to dismiss seven bootlegging cases. Judge Charles G White, presiding, was seen reconciling the shredded message before the order was granted. Stella Harshberger signed the note.
Clarence Lukehart 21 admits beating Harry Boyd eight in Anamosa after an assault on a girl. He says the boy was killed with a rock during a hot spell near his Nebraska Iowa border. Iowa jurisdiction set. trial moved to Council Bluffs.
In Waco Texas on April 3 Mrs P O Ashworth calmly shot Miss Charlie Lawson at the News Tribune office then attempted to poison her baby with acid. The husband cashier aided by hospital staff watched the aftermath as authorities labeled the event a temporary derangement. The boy and any other victims were not seriously harmed. An inquest was scheduled for tomorrow.
Tom Heeney the New Zealand heavyweight, recently defeated by Gene Tunney, married Marion Estelle Dunn of Spring Valley New York. The ceremony took place at Ladenstown with Justice Pintus Margulis officiating. The couple left Ladentown about 10:30 PM and headed for their honeymoon unknown. Mrs Dunn is the daughter of retired merchant John Dunn of Spring Valley.
Mar tin J. Brown Kenton County Attorney swore an affidavit charging Mrs. Ethel Hogan widow of Webster Hogan with wilful murder on July 26. She surrendered to deputies and posted a $4000 bond after Judge Read set the bond and scheduled a preliminary hearing.
New York Governor Al Smith rejects the equalization fee in the McNary Haugen farm relief bill and vows to work on a satisfactory alternative. He discusses farm relief with Illinois leader George Peek and plans further talks with Senator Walsh of Montana. Smith spends the day in New York with comments from aides and supporters noting his Tammany ties and focus on farm issues.
A 17 year old, Robert Kurtz of 932 Bank Street, fell down an elevator shaft at the Victor Lamp Company located at 312 Reading Road late yesterday afternoon. He died instantly. The body was found by coworker William Weting. Company officials did not provide a statement by last evening.
Julius Amarand, a 14 to 16 year old with a disabled right arm, won the Third Annual Checker Tournament for boys on Plum Street City Hall steps, defeating Fire Chief Barney Houston who called him the better player. The intermediate winner was Amarand with Brinkmeyer as runner up. the junior champ was Walter Kessler with Burtisch as runner up.
Report notes Polish airmen sighted at sea winging toward New York as fog battles off France. In Hollywood California a court holds Russell Barholme and Russell St Clair Beitzel over the murder of Norma Barholme, Barbara Mauger, whose nude body found in Stone Canyon north of Los Angeles. Beitzel denies but faces formal charges.
Dorothy Mackaill motion picture actress obtained an interlocutory decree of divorce from director Lothar Mendes in Los Angeles. She cited cruelty as the ground. The couple had been married a little more than a year, wed in New York.
The Court of Appeals upheld city authority to regulate garbage disposal and grant exclusive rights to a single company. The ruling reversed a Common Pleas Court decision in favor of George B. Moock of Newport who sought a permit to haul city garbage. Moock had contracts with hotels and restaurants but was denied a permit by the city to compete with Union Reduction Co.
Chicago faces a sweeping case as a July grand jury charges conspiracy to violate election laws involving Judge Emanuel Eller State Senator James B Leonardo City Collector Morris Eller and 17 others. The panel also accuses them of kidnapping assaults and trading protection for votes. The investigation targets ward politics and alleged police complicity at polling places. Trials are planned for September with calls to extend grand jury powers.
