Eight Drowned When Boat Went Down on Mississippi River
New Orleans April 25 eight persons were lost when the towboat Eagle of the Louisiana Petroleum company sank in the Mississippi about forty miles south of New Orleans at 4 30 this morning. Seven aboard escaped by clinging to debris and reaching shore. Survivors say there was no explosion and the barge separated as the boat sank. Captain George Joyce and crew members Charles Goodbue Charles Martin Richard Leblanc a cal in boy and two negro deck hands and a negro chambermaid were among the dead. The sinking remains unexplained and the river is about 100 feet deep at the point.
