Special Cable from London reports Greece under pressure as Turkey advances in Thessaly and Epirus. Germany's backing of Turkey, Russian aims, and British diplomacy loom large while Bulgaria and Serbia push for spoils, with Parliament due to debate policy.
A tornado struck Omer on April 24 at 5 30 PM wrecking W R Clouston store and Frederick Hageley residence. Mrs and Mrs Hageley were severely injured, while Clouston also sustained injuries. J T Backile and wife escaped unharmed while walls and floors collapsed. The storm caused widespread damage and oily residue covered touched objects.

Louis Fleischmann of 10 East Seventy third street, brother of Senator Charles Fleischmann of Cincinnati, was decorated by Emperor Francis Joseph of Austria. Consul General Stockinger pinned the medal after praising his gallantry in the 1866 Austro Prussian War when, as a 28 year old First Lieutenant, he carried news to the commander under fire and helped rally Austrian troops. He later immigrated to America and became a millionaire.
Special dispatches report Turkish assaults on Mati repulsed several times with Greek forces retreating in good order to Karacles. Greek troops entrenched at Karacles while Priom Arta holds Ponte pigadia heights. Epirus operations likely to end soon.
Fred Homer of New Castle Pennsylvania fought for life after three robbers held him on the west breakwater. They stole 350 dollars then pushed him into the chilly lake. David Sutherland of the life saving crew rescued him after over an hour in the water. Homer later told of the attempted murder and robbery.
In Parkersburg West Virginia on April 24 Ida Cochran six years old was burned to death after a brush heap caught fire. Her father Joseph Cochran was likely fatally burned as he tried to rescue his daughter from the flames.
Ahl Wu Ting Fang the new Chinese Minister to this country and his wife Chang Pao Tung with other Chinese notables passed through Columbus on their way to Washington. He showed familiarity with poetry and asked numerous questions during a brief stop.
Telegram from Larissa dated April 19 reports Greek forces under Major Kathinotio retreated at Miloyna Pass as 5,000 Turkish reinforcements arrived. Combined Greek force later north of Tyrnavo totaled Evzones, infantry, and artillery. both sides stood firm through day and night.
Ex Chief Justice Pryor and John W. Rodman, representing Dr. Hunter, ex congressman John H. Wilson and Hon. Bw. T. Franks, will move to quash the indictments before Judge Cantril on Monday. If overruled they will demur and seek an immediate trial if defeated.
Dr. W. Godfrey Hunter of Kentucky met President McKinley in Washington on April 2 for a cordial interview. McKinley praised Hunter's role in the senatorial fight. No hint of a specific offer or Hunter’s future plans. It is suggested he would be well provided for if he seeks any position.
Lawrenceburg April 4 Hon L H Carter was declared the Democratic nominee for State Senator in the district including Anderson Franklin and Mercer Counties. It is believed Republicans and gold Democrats will jointly nominate a candidate to oppose Carter.
Chauncey M. Depew marked his 62nd birthday with a dinner hosted by the Montauk Club in Brooklyn. About 280 guests attended, with numerous city leaders present. Depew spoke as the sole speaker.
Rev. William Koenig of Bremen a prominent Lutheran clergyman in Indiana has accepted a call to become pastor of the First Lutheran Church at Phillipsburg.
