Havana April 22 Gov General Wood pardoned W H Reeves who had been sentenced to ten years and a 35516 dollar fine for involvement in Cuban postal frauds Reeves was released immediately and cited as a state witness The pardon follows long standing talk that Reeves was promised immunity by the military government in Rathbone case officials say no immunity was granted and Rathbones lawyers alleged such a promise influenced Reeves statements
Democratic Mayor-elect Charles C. Klein of Urichsville is missing after leaving town on a westbound Panhandle train. Klein, 35, in drug business with Dr T B Helms, had won the election by sixty seven votes. His sworn-in date was postponed as investigators search for his whereabouts.
In London on April 22 the Chancellor Sir Michael Hicks Beach announced offal would be taxed at three pence per hundredweight instead of five for stock feeding. He said flour and fine meals faced no extra burden and noted bread prices had risen but should fall as traders adjust. The House of Commons backed the corn duties resolution by 283 to 197 after midnight, with Mr. Balfour applying the cloture.
