Washington reports from a private letter that Moros on Bungao island killed three U S soldiers and wounded one when attempting to seize rifles. Ten Moros were executed or killed after being turned over to an American officer and other natives faced punishment for the escape attempt.
Chicago Building Council officials announce daily receipts of 1000 to aid members facing a lockout. President John A. Long of the Board of Business Agents says funds will come from now on, while President Edward Carroll heads East to raise more for affiliated unions.
Special Despatch reports 35 year old George Phillips of Muncie Indiana killed himself after returning home drunk. He called for his wife to guard the three children then fired two bullets into his heart in the bedroom. He had not drunk for six years and warned of self destruction if he drank again. The wife feared for her life and protected the baby.
In Lexington Kentucky on April 22 Charles Howard a 15 year old Black boy was killed after grabbing a live wire used for arc light in a group dispute about its charge. The incident occurred during a discussion among friends.
Columbus police investigate Joshua Lewis ailing from pneumonia after he was treated by magnetic healers A B Davis and A C Biggs for a week They allegedly prevented standard medicines while denying interference Neighbors dispute claims and Mrs Lewis supports the healers’ case.
Columbus officials near declaring war on worthless dogs amid hydrophobia deaths in ten days. In the northern and eastern city areas a reign of terror spreads as many stray cars cause fear. last night a terrier was killed after a family narrowly escaped a bite.
Through the direct influence of the Rev H H Barber of the Baptist Tabernacle a carload of shelled corn totaling 762 bushels was sent from Columbus to India to aid famine relief. Barber also launches a church telephone system enabling parishioners to hear Gospel interpretation by wire from home.
Periodically showing a two year mental derangement, Pat Summey an elderly Confederate veteran planned to kill Admiral Dewey when he visited Macon on March 22. He fled to the countryside, then turned his plan to other public figures before being arrested while attempting suicide.
In Steubenville Ohio near Hopedale, Adam Cardiff a 42 year old widower, planned to marry a 23 year old in Charleston West Virginia. He discovered a photo in her family album that he believes is his dead wife. He learned his fiancé’s mother died when he was a baby and that her name matched the man’s late wife’s family ties. The revelation halted the wedding plans.
Ex-Governor Bradley, Taylor's chief counsel, rebukes AP reports that Taylor is a fugitive in New York seeking Roosevelt protection. He states Taylor went to Washington on personal business and will return to face the indictment, if any, and meet accusers in court. A looming Supreme Court argument on the Governorship case is set for April 30.
Manila April 22. Week marked by heavy combat with 378 Filipinos killed 12 officers and 244 men captured and many wounded. General Montenegro captured by Colonel Smith whose command brought in Montenegro and 180 officers and men. Smith in isolation hospital with smallpox. Insurgents remain aggressive across Luzon while Spanish prisoners and ongoing railroad sabotage are reported.
Telegraphers in Pittsburgh announce a sixty day demand for higher minimum wages from 45 to 55 dollars per month under the existing agreement with railroads. They report high unionization on the Baltimore and Ohio system and related lines, with the Vanderbilt Pittsburg Lake Erie agreeing to the demand. Union No. 52 allocates 1400 dollars to aid strikers on the Southern road.
Hinton West Virginia reports Frank Wallace struck by a freight train while sitting on a tie. he died instantly. He was taken to his former home in Abingdon after the accident occurred yesterday evening as another train passed on the adjacent track.
In Atchison Kansas on April 22 Thomas C Woerman pleaded guilty in district court to burning the residence of J C Fox a prominent citizen. Fox and family had helped him but he said he did it to play hero and impress his employer. Woerman admitted he was inspired by cheap novels.
In LaPorte Indiana on April 22 a woodchopper unearthed a tin box containing $300 in gold coins from the Gruer farm. The dying farmer John Gruer was suspected to have buried treasure and a broader search is planned for more wealth.
In Constantinople on April 22 the Porte says it will compensate American missionaries under the same terms as other foreigners. The U S Legation and embassies protest import duties and demand prior consultation on changes. A settlement seems possible as Ottoman officials hint at inviting embassies to discuss proposed changes. The indemnity dispute draws wide interest among political circles seeking allied support.
In Chicago on April 22 William Aylward, fearing conspiracy, attacked five people at a fishing shack with a pocket knife. He killed William Larkins, slashed 18 year old Thomas Norris, injured others, then surrendered at Hyde Park police station.
Ohio politics swirl as Senator Foraker’s backers press for a delegate at large seat in the coming convention to back his renomination. General Grosvenor may oppose but seek an alternate at large and protests are said to be engineered by General Dick’s supporters.
Ernest Meyer was found guilty of killing his brother in law Christ Bauer on March 10 in Sioux City Iowa. The jury set the penalty at a $900 fine or one year in jail.
The Louisville to Columbus Confederate Veterans group aims to run a special train to Columbus on June 5 after the National Confederate reunion ends June 3. They intend to expand the Camp Chase memorial services, a long standing observance previously cared for by the local Grand Army of the Republic.

In Chillicothe Ohio on April 22 George Poe in custody for murder admitted that during a drunken quarrel he struck James Stewart on the head with a stone, killing him. He claimed he left Stewart in the street and released his horse tied to the buggy.
Archbishop Corrigan sails for Rome to report on his diocese with 253 photographs of religious charitable and educational institutions from the past decade. Priests and locals gather at Hoboken to bid him farewell with flowers and carriages.
Berlin April 22 Emperor William visiting Altona for the Prince of Wales salute found disorder in arrangements by Lieutenant General Von Schleinitz. Upon returning to Berlin the Emperor ordered six months leave for Von Schleinitz. The General tendered his resignation and left the army.
In Syracuse at St Vincent de Paul Church a white haired man, John Hughes, fired four shots into a crowd as worshipers exited mass. He killed his wife with a shot to the ear then wounded Elizabeth Lyons, a 16 year old, before being wrested to safety. Hughes later stabbed himself with shears and was taken to St Joseph's Hospital. his wife had previously reported threats to police.
Three fishermen from St John West sailed from Carteroff for a local ground in a 14 foot boat. Peter Mangan and Charles Moore disappeared after the afternoon and were found dead in their boat this morning. Charles Scammell was later landed at the harbor. No cause of death is known.
Colonel David G. Colson arrives home in Middlesboro after being acquitted by a Circuit Court jury. He spent the day receiving friends at the residence of Jaller Lawrence and dining with C. O. Reynolds. Colson calls the verdict a vindication and thanks supporters after addressing Beckham soldiers at the courthouse.
The Dwight Cotton Mills of Alabama City Alabama shipped seventeen carloads of cotton cloth, the largest single foreign shipment ever made from the South, destined for the Chinese Empire.
