Windows shattered and porch damaged amid ongoing church factional troubles and a Black Hand death threat. Local mine workers are implicated in discussions about the pastor’s removal.
New York April 18. A statement says the Fine Arts Federation Art Societies will honor Stanford White by collective action. Mr. Chase, president of the old Art Society, notes many artists support tribute efforts and urge a conference to plan memorials for White’s city beautification effort from Washington Square Memorial Arch to Central Park.
J G Phelps Stokes of New York a Socialist and settlement worker denied being wealthy and said his ambition is to stay in the working class. He will devote his income to Socialist propaganda for a year and kept funds to prevent others from misusing them. He spoke at Hull House after arriving with his wife Rose Pastor from New York.
New York April 18 District Attorney opened an inquiry into a report that a juror in Harry K Thaw's trial was approached by a policeman. Jurors Brearly and others to be summoned to the DA's office to recount any knowledge of the claim. Thaw's counsel status remains unsettled with no senior counsel in the case.
Washington reports Governor Hagerman of New Mexico has resigned amid charges over land transfers to a Pennsylvania company. President appoints Captain George Curry of Samar Province Philippines as new New Mexico governor. Curry served with the Rough Riders and Troop H from Tularosa.
London April 18 The patents and designs bill introduced in the House of Commons by Lloyd George passed its second reading. It aims to force American made machinery used in British factories to be manufactured in Great Britain. The Shoe and Leather Record flags this targets American shoe machinery not made in Britain and criticizes Clause 16 as protecting British manufacturers.
In Lexington Kentucky on April 18 the prosecutor rests after three witnesses in the Bill Britton case. Britton testifies he aided none in the Cockrill killing and says he was with Elbert Hargis in Jackson the day of the murder. A report claims a feud between Judge Hargis and Ed Callahan with a possible confession offer in exchange for immunity.
Columbus Ohio April 18 The grand jury returned secret indictments against members of the Ice Trust for restraint of trade. Indicted are C M Kinnaird W W Polley D O Davis Starling Waddell F G Stockdale D H Norville and W J Phillips. arrests and bail followed today.
Chicago April 18. Edward Fago a car cleaner for the Chicago and Northwestern was struck on the head with a brick after refusing to strike. He died soon after as three men jumped him and kicked him. Police arrested Paul Malka and seek Henry Volker and Joseph Majka for aiding in the assault.
Mrs. Leah C. Gilman, her son Collins and daughters Bessie and Fayne waived preliminary hearing in Squire Holderman's court and were bound over to the grand jury on murder charges. They were released on bond totaling seven thousand dollars.
Fire at the Canada Steam Laundry on Justin Street, caused by benzine explosion, killed three women employees and injured twelve others. The plant employed thirty women and five men.

Dr. Oliver C. Haugh, the calmest condemned man in Ohio, died at 12:01 a.m. in the electric chair for murdering his father mother and brother in Dayton on November 1, 196. He transformed by drugs, disposed of the bodies with an oil-soaked fatal blaze and set a funeral pyre. He had earlier studied medicine in Cincinnati and Louisville and was once confined to a state hospital.
Secretary Taft and his party sailed from San Juan aboard the Mayflower at noon with Beekman Winthrop and Mrs. Winthrop plus Mrs. Taft and Mrs. Margorie Ide. The crowd cheered as insular troops escorted the procession from the palace. Regis H. Post was inaugurated Governor of Puerto Rico succeeding Winthrop.
