Brussels April 18 The Independence Belge reports Turkey has officially declared war on Greece and sent notification to the powers this morning. The decision marks a formal escalation between the two nations in the ongoing regional crisis.
Nightlong fight in Milouna Pass as Greek forces engage four Turkish battalions. Neshad Pasha and Hairi Pasha move divisions to seize key positions while Edhem Pasha directs dispositions at dawn. About 20 000 troops in action. blockhouse finally fell to Turks at bayonet point. Reporter notes Greek deaths.

Athens April 18 The Turkish batteries at Prevesa in Epirus fired on the Greek steamer Macedonia and sank her while leaving the Gulf of Ambracia. Greek forces retaliated by bombarding Prevesa as 2,000 Greeks reportedly moved toward the town and reserves were called from the 1886 class.

Walter B. Green nineteen son of John Green Assistant General Manager of the Columbus Evening Dispatch was found dead in his bedroom at seven this morning. Ether fumes from a bottle in use to remove acid stains caused his collapse as vertigo struck. Coroner notified death ruled accidental and rare.
In Birmingham on April 18 George Lazarat a Greek restaurateur was struck on the head by an unknown robber in Pratt City. The assailant fled and Lazarat died later, marking another fatal attack on a Greek restaurateur within a week.

John Hurtig was arrested in Findlay Ohio on suspicion of taking part in the early Saturday morning attack on the Blakesley farm. Smith Blakesley says he recognized Hurtig as one of the assailants though Hurtig’s precise involvement remains under review. Blakesley, badly beaten, is in precarious condition after a brief consciousness.
Bankfort Ky April 18. Quiet day in the Lexington area as two thirds of the legislature were away. Dr Hunter remains in the race but has not decided on an immediate withdrawal. A new caucus discussion continues with Republicans backing Boyle while awaiting Hunters withdrawal. Bryan to address legislature tomorrow at 2 PM.
In Muncie Indiana on a Saturday night April 18 thousands believed they saw a mysterious airship. At about 9 30 pm a dim swift object with green and white lights crossed the sky and vanished only to reappear hours later retracing its route. The craft proved to be four hot air balloons tied together with lanterns in colored globes set aloft by two practical jokers.
The body of Mrs. S. M. Hanna mother of Senator M. A. Hanna arrived in Cleveland from Asheville North Carolina by the Big Four line this afternoon. Dignitaries and family members traveled with the casket to Senator Hanna home 736 Prospect Street. The funeral is set for Tuesday afternoon at Euclid Avenue Presbyterian Church with Rev. Sprecher officiating. Interment will follow at Lake View Cemetery.
New York April 18 Pedestrians carriages and bicyclists filled River Side Drive as crowds gathered for Grant's tomb. The bronze doors closed at 5 15 causing the plaza to thin slowly while the weather remained ideal. A number of prominent people held tickets to the monument's inn.
In Lawrenceburg Kentucky on April 18 six Anderson County residents are indicted for arson and intimidating tollgate owners tied to a long turnpike war. The grand jury accuses Bert Casey Alonzo Casey John Warford William Bond Cabell McKee and Buckner McKee of armed conspiracy to destroy tolls and tollhouses.
A National Reform Press Association committee in Girard Kansas has begun a campaign to challenge Marion Butler as Populist National Committee chairman and seeks a Nashville convention on July 4. Delegates are to be chosen by 250 Populist votes each from the recent election. The group urges unity and rejects fusion with old parties while noting Omaha and St. Louis platform loyalties remain strong.
Prof. R. O. Becker Jr a German Conservatory teacher in Marion Ohio reports a Leipsic military court demand to appear by April 2 to explain his escape from German service. His father in Dresden is said to pay 2600 yearly as penalty. Becker claims U.S. naturalization last November and a move to remain in America. He will seek State Department protection if Germany presses the claim.
Ferdinand Krause and Sophie Moser Krause aged 78 and 79 marked their golden wedding anniversary in Marion Ohio. They have eleven children eight living, sixty nine grandchildren sixty three living and eleven great grandchildren. Both born in Manheim Germany they were married there and have resided in Marion for about forty years.
Hindman Kentucky April 18 Circuit Court adjourned after convicting nine persons to terms in the penitentiary. It marks the first court session here in two years due to docket shortages.
