Desperate diamond plot ends in hotel struggle

E C Sullivan a 20 year old Indianapolis graduate attempted to rob Colonel Edward H Lovell at the Burnet House. He chloroformed and threatened Lovell, but Lovell fought back and grabbed the gun. Sullivan, calm after the capture, claimed it was a foolish trick born of need for money.
