President Wilson summarily dismisses Willis L. Moore chief of the Weather Bureau and suspends Charles L. Burns amid an investigation into using public service for private ends. The move follows Moore’s bid to become Secretary of Agriculture and signals potential removals across the bureau. Houston explains the decision and says the inquiry continues.
Harvey Thomas, longtime editor of The Atlantic City Review, appeared in Mays Landing court and pleaded not guilty to a libel indictment filed by William Riddle the Mayor of Atlantic City. The charge stems from a harsh editorial calling Riddle an egotist and other insults.
In Hot Springs Arkansas on April 16 a crooked roulette wheel with electrical devices was set up in Circuit Court during the Ed Spear trial. Electrical engineer John McKenzie testified he built and sold the device to a Chicago supplier. Charles Bryan said the wheel was not in the club when Fox says he lost money.
Chicago reports Dr. L L Funk proposes a mechanical anaesthesia using a whirling chair to render patients unconscious during dental work. He demonstrated unconsciousness on canaries birds fish mice and humans and plans to whirl a table head to center for further testing.

Lydia fifteen and Vincent three years younger vanished from the Stede household after Lydia received money for a movie and likely went to search for her brother. Detectives, stations, and a general alarm were engaged as the family explains the haunting disappearance. Vincent later sent a postcard claiming he was headed to Staten Island.
In Brussels the Premier told the Chamber that 360,000 workers were on strike with estimates ranging from 291,406 to 310,000 across coal, mining, metal, iron, glass and textiles. Outside, 10,000 strikers gathered as six hundred paraded unstopped, while gendarmes monitored suburban areas for wire cutters and rubber gloves.
Paris civil court ordered Princess Louise of Belgium to pay 770 dollars for twelve parasols bought between May 17 and July 7 1911 one for each dress. The most expensive parasol cost 14 dollars.
