Special Despatch from Washington outlines a rising revolt against Pennsylvania political boss Matthew S Quay. The movement threatens Quay allies including Elkin and risks costing Roosevelt loyalists control of Congress and the Senate as reshaping of state politics unfolds.
In Hiram Township Portage County Ohio on April 13 Mrs Emma Vaughn 45 and her mother Mrs Calhoun 71 were shot and killed at their farm. Step son William M Vaughn 37 is arrested though he protests innocence as evidence is gathered. a revolver found at his home matches bullets in the victims. Sheriff Goodenough plans a jail hearing for tomorrow.
Rabbi Emil G. Hirsch of Chicago spoke at Har Sinai Temple declaring Judaism remains even if Moses and the Ten Commandments lack traditional origin. He called the Bible mythology and literature, urged a God superior to man, and criticized modern Judaism as unsatisfying amid many would be saviors and sensational sermons.
Immigrants totaling 4,162 arrived in New York today aboard five steamers from European ports. The Trojan Prince carried 1,107 passengers from the Mediterranean, the Staten Dam 1,097 from Rotterdam, the Champagne 1,069 from Havre, the Hesperia 680 from Mediterranean ports, and the Island 219 from Denmark.
John Turner a puddler of 11 Deimer Street was shot and fatally wounded by former friend William Rogers of 204 Wilson Avenue on a crowded street corner. Five shots followed the initial hit as Rogers, calm, pocketed the weapon and watched Turner die. Rogers was arrested and confessed satisfaction at the death. Jealousy tied to Rogers belief Turner ruined his home after Turner boarded there last January and Rogers sought reconciliation through visits.
In Waxahachie Texas on April 13 J A Beall of Ellis County won Hill County in the Democratic primaries over Congressman Dudley G Wooten of Dallas. Beall secured 41 instructed votes to 34 for Wooten, securing the county for the nomination as other counties had already acted.

Manila April 13 Jon W T Waller a Marine Corps officer was acquitted by a court martial on the charge of killing natives at Sarfar without trial The vote was 11 to 2 in favor of acquittal The finding held that natives did not aid the soldiers to keep from starving and that they had plotted to murder the Americans The trial indicated the natives were not complicit in the need for killings
London reports that Orange Free State and Transvaal leaders have arrived at Pretoria to discuss peace terms. Cabinet members including Chamberlain moved between offices as despatches pass with Lord Kitchener. No official statement issued. Parliament to hear next day on budget and South African situation.
Vienna cablegram reports the Schnur family’s release from prison over the murder charge of Schulim Schnur. The plan to prove the young man did not die involved a committee chaired by Dr. M. Neustaeder. Schnur reportedly left the country under American care after investigations.
Special Cable reports Richard Croker will become Lord of Wantage Manor after purchasing the Manor farm for 75000 dollars. He will possess tomorrow and, by custom, gains feudal privileges. The change elevates him to a leading local figure, signaling plans to settle in England rather than campaign in New York next fall.

Special despatch from Washington reports wide rejoicing over Major Waller's acquittal. The Marine Corps veteran was praised for a long, storied career and for acting under alleged battlefield necessity during a punitive expedition against Filipino natives. The court martial had charged him with ordering executions without trial.
Chicago reports Fannie Goldman of Toronto killed herself in a Madison Street hotel room. She reportedly drank carbolic acid then used room gas jets after learning her son Jacob was jailed awaiting removal to Pontiac Reformatory for parole violation.
In Memphis, A. T. Sharpe of Detroit, a traveling rep for Park Davis, was killed after an altercation with Lacey Chase. Chase says Sharpe knocked him down and he stabbed Sharpe multiple times. Chase surrendered and was jailed. Additional dispatches note drought relief appeals in Zapeta County, Texas.
