Gold bullion valued at 18150 was snatched from two messengers of the Irvington Smelting and Refining Company by four masked robbers in Irvington New Jersey. The gang fled in a waiting automobile driven by a fifth man after seizing the satchel from Andrew Heeney and backing into their car. The messengers were en route to the United States assay office in New York when the robbery occurred.

Six Believed Drowned After Coffer Dam Collapse
Lansing Michigan April 12 Believed to have been caught in the collapse of a coffer dam at the South Logan Street Viaduct this morning six men are thought to have been drowned. The missing men were part of an eight man crew working below the dam about thirty feet under the water level. Two other crew members were rescued and rushed to a hospital. The swollen river from recent rains stressed the dam, causing it to fail without warning as workers were buried under timber and water. One rescued man was thrown clear into the river below the dam.
