Paris April 7 The French Finance Committee defeated the proposal to separate the two parts of the finance bill by 18 to 14. Minister of Finance M de Monzie won the vote and the committee will continue debate tomorrow afternoon delaying any chamber discussion before Thursday.
Paris notes the Herriot cabinet gains a 24 hour pause to study de Monzie's emergency finance measures. The plan includes 4 billion francs new paper money, a 3 percent state loan, and a compulsory wealth levy aimed at 10 percent of capital with options for payment and quarterly installments. Leaders express both support and strong opposition as the Senate criticizes education minister Allert and the program faces a tough parliament fight.
The Daily Express reports an engagement soon to be announced between Guglielmo Marconi the wireless inventor and Elizabeth Narcissa Paynter eighteen daughter of Colonel George Cam bore Beauclerk Paynter of Bosguenna Cornwall an intimate friend of Marconi. Marconi aged 61 was divorced last year at Fiume and his former wife remarried. Colonel Paynter commands the Scots Guards.
Mrs Lottie Afro and Mrs Lawrence Rounds saw a large Canadian lynx in woods road near their home on Woods road in Saranac Lake The unusual size and behavior frightened them as the cat crouched then vanished into brush The lynx is thought to be the same animal that has roamed the area for years ignoring traps and bullets.
In Danville Kentucky on April 7 police prepare to try honey bees charged as a nuisance. Edward Corn owns forty stands of bees. neighbors say they sting people and ruin gardens while parents report children fear barefoot play. Corn defends by questioning how bees will be identified.
Chicago April 7 Inspector W S Hoerger of the Health Department is jailed on charges he supplied typhoid germs to Dr C C Faiman used by Shepherd to inoculate Billy McClintock in an estate plot. Hoerger denies the accusation while investigators seek witnesses and examiners test tissue samples from Olsen and McClintock victims.
The Count and Countess Karolyi of Hungary depart New York for Canada after the Count, restricted by State Department rules on political speech, states he will tell his story freely in Canada. They will sail from St Johns for England after arriving in Montreal.
Elbert H. Gary chairman of United States Steel Corp says business conditions are at an all time high, noting improved buying since April 1 and that present prices are too low to ensure manufacturer profits. He cites wage costs and labor rates as factors in living costs and notes ongoing heavy capital spending.
In South Bend Indiana Wilson W Culp a former Mennonite and Methodist minister returns home after eloping with Mrs Clio Culp sister in law. She has refused to press charges and he says there will be no prosecution. He criticizes prisons while reflecting on his own wrongdoing and hopes for forgiveness.
In Mahano y City Pennsylvania Thomas Kean a miner ordered his helper Lawrence Coulson to safety as a rock slide and coal and dirt engulfed his chute. Kean perished while Coulson escaped and watched the earth cover his friend.
Washington reports President Coolidge will spend well under 75 dollars for Easter attire. A $65 domestic weave suit will be worn again as he avoids imported fabrics. His last year's hat was reblocked and cleaned at about 2.60, with shoes resoled and reblocked as part of a cost-conscious wardrobe.
Gov Donahey releases statement that no substantiation found linking his seventeen year old son Hal Donahey to the disappearance of Lillian Vogel a fifteen year old from Zanesville Ohio. Lillian telegraphed she went to Florida and Frances Keaton claimed she eloped with a boy said to be Hal. Hal testified he rode with strangers and returned them to Zanesville and home.
Judge Hickenlooper denies clemency to Peter Pochard a former federal prohibition agent who pleaded guilty to maintaining a nuisance in Hamilton. Pochard and bartender Charles Johnson receive jail and fines while 33 officers and agents also plead guilty to graft charges with sentences outlined for several defendants including Edward J. Dumont Carl A. Finn and John Berger. Federal testimony recounted liquor purchases and backroom mixing at Pochard’s saloon on Main and Fifth.
A United States Grand Jury indicted 170 residents of Kenton Campbell and Boone counties on charges of sale transportation or possession of liquor after six hours of deliberation. Indictments followed months of federal prohibition enforcement in Northern Kentucky with 15 previous indictments on Monday and possible additional targets today.
Twenty four policemen and nine city agents pleaded guilty in Cincinnati federal court to conspiring to violate the prohibition act, joining thirty nine defendants who have admitted guilt. The move marks a second wave of pleas in four days, with further guilty pleas anticipated as prosecutors press the case against remaining defendants.

New York April 7 A nonsectarian world center of modern curative methods is proposed as a $5,000,000 cathedral hospital linked to the St Marks in the Bouwerie clinic. A spring ball on April 16 funds the project while Dr Edward S Cowles emphasizes religion and medicine as allied, not opposed to the nearby Cathedral of St John the Divine.
Washington April 7 New York bankers grow restive at White House restatement of policy against loans to finance arms abroad. They argue such restrictions cut European business and warn loans have funded prior wars. Officials stress no formal veto exists and policy is longstanding.
In the Blue Ridge and Allegheny ranges, fires have raged for four days and remained uncontrolled. Fifteen fires reported, six near the Shenandoah National Park tract. Volunteers aided by coast artillery fought flames all day and watched through the night, likely saving homes and sawmills.
A brush fire at a sawmill yard in Deerfield New Hampshire sparked a major forest blaze that destroyed one house three barns a garage and about three million feet of timber and damaged five other buildings. Fire fighters from nearby towns plus local volunteers fought the nearly twelve hour blaze as residents sheltered with children nearby and kept watch over the smoky area.
