Pittsburgh April 5 AP dispatch reports new developments in the graft case as Charles W. Friend pleads not guilty to paying $500 to former Councilman Charles Stewart to influence bank and ordinance issues. Morris Einstein confesses to taking $20,000 from Workingman’s Savings Bank for bribes and resigns from council.
Representative Kemple of Akron pushed a bill to require lobbyists to register with the state as a special order for the next day. The House passed most insurance bills, excluding one on foreign policy holder taxes, which was later reconsidered. The session saw heated debate on the Yount text book bill and potential committee actions on school legislation.

Berlin April 5 The Socialist Federation of Trades Unions with 300 000 workers is backing a decisive strike after rejecting the Master Builders wage tariff. If observed the walkout would involve at least 360 000 men nationwide. About 35 000 Christian trades union members join the rejection.
Cleveland February to March results show three cent streetcar fares on the Cleveland Traction system paid off. The company reports a probable profit of sixty six cents per car mile and an overall surplus of $18,964.24 beyond operating costs and the six percent stockholder return after lifting receivership.
Governor Harmon signed the Hawkins bill requiring the nomination of congressional candidates and delegates to national conventions by primaries. The law takes effect before any congressional nominations are held in Ohio.
In McKees Rocks near Pittsburgh four foreign robbers killed Samuel Friedman and Isaac Schwartz of the Victor Banking Co at a bank counting cash. Robert King, a passerby, was wounded in the groin. Thomas Neery also hurt. Police responded. Friedman and Schwartz died after surgery.
Kansas City Missouri April 5 165 precincts of 196 report mayoral results with Darius A Brown Republican leading by about 2000 votes over Andrew F. in a closely watched contest. Brown tallies 18663 votes as the official count progresses.
In Columbus a tentative agreement ends talk of a general strike among coal miners in the valley area. President Sullivan of the Ohio miners union and operators' representatives, with subdistrict delegates, agree on a five cent per ton wage increase. Local details will be set in forthcoming meetings and Ohio mining will continue.
The mine crisis in Illinois prompts a planned joint meeting in Chicago next Tuesday between scale committees of the miners' and operators' executive groups. John P. Walker and A. J. Moorshead arrange the talks while cautious timelines suggest a possible agreement not within a month but about thirty days after the committees convene.
In Centerville Texas two sons and Frank Bates Jr attempted a jail escape. A posse shot Bates and Dolly Bates was hanged but cut down before death. Deputy S J St John was wounded as inmates opened fire. In Keo Arkansas a mob of African Americans hanged two prisoners after they killed a man and his wife.
Miss Jessie Meyers aged 24 and George Lindaman aged 23 fell sixty feet from a cliff along Lovers Path near Myersdale. An express train passing at that moment mangled them, and their bodies were found today by a train crew and brought to Pittsburg.
In New York on April 5, Isa Wilford Hein and Edna Valentine Hein, seeking divorces, name eleven co respondents. Mrs Hein appears in her suit today and faces a counter suit by her husband. She lists six corespondents while he names five including Norman Selby aka Kid McCoy the pugilist.

Indiana Republicans nominate a full state ticket apart from governor and lieutenant governor and adopt a platform backing protective tariffs a tariff commission conservation of natural resources Roosevelt policies and Taft administration. Beveridge keynotes denouncing Payne Aldrich tariff while endorsing tariff inquiry to protect American labor and workers.
Washington, April 5. Representative Martin of Colorado introduced a privileged resolution demanding War Department records on the Mindoro sale and other Philippine land concessions. He alleges a sugar trust plot behind friar lands and vows to uncover full details, including contracts and rents. The measure goes to the Insular Affairs Committee.
