Flames end life of a little girl
Four year old Mattie Pearl Lewis lit a match in her kitchen at 414 Lock Street. The fire burned her clothes before neighbors and her mother could act. She died at the city hospital shortly after. The mother and two other tenants suffered burns while attempting to help. Two brothers witnessed the blaze unharmed.
