Kalamazoo April 3 The nationwide strike of Michigan United Railway Company workers began early today. About 200 men across Kalamazoo Battle Creek and the Kalamazoo to Jackson interurban are idle as crews from outside cities operate eight to ten cars. The action follows wage demands and union recognition.
All paper makers at the International Paper Company plant in Fort Edward decided to strike last night. The walkout stems from a rift between the paper makers' union and the pulp sulphite and paper mill workers over the dismissal of members who left the union.
Marietta Ohio April 3 section men of the Muskingum River Division of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad walk out seeking twenty cents more per day raising pay from $1.30 to $1.50. The strike endangers service on the Zanesville to Marietta line after flood damage left fills and trestles washed out.
Newport Rhode Island carpenters cabinet makers and upholsterers and other mechanics tied up the city after a strike of about three hundred workers began today to protest the refusal of their employers to grant a Saturday half holiday.

A fire at the Harnish bakery on Main Street in Xenia Ohio gutted most of a block, damaging five buildings with an estimated loss near 30000 dollars. In Montreal on April 3 William Simpson a prosperous farmer killed his two infant daughters aged 2 months and 2 years while his wife was away. He then attempted suicide with two revolver shots. Doctors cite excessive affection for his children as the cause of his alleged insanity.

Pittsburg and Cincinnati investors formed the Hamilton Iron and Steel Company to build plants at Coke Otto near Hamilton. The project includes a blast furnace for 500 workers a rolling mill for 1000 to 1500 workers a cement plant using blast furnace slag and a $250000 expansion to the Hamilton Otto Coke Company funded by W R R Todd and Company of Cincinnati.
Special Dispatch reports Nebraska lawmakers passed a bill making it unlawful for brewers and wholesale liquor dealers to own saloons. The measure, approved by both houses, awaits the governor's signature.
Ohio Representative Kennedy, after meeting with the President, released a strong statement urging Foraker's re election to the Senate. He said his support for Taft does not negate loyalty to Foraker and praised his tariff stance, asserting Ohio Republicans will not accept Foraker's retirement amid the Taft race.

Marion County Republicans are described as solid for Taft with plans to organize a Taft Club. former Lieutenant Governor is said to lean Foraker.
