Allied air crews in England prepare to arm nearly all aircraft with bombs to boost effectiveness. Americans train in bombing techniques alongside machine-gun handling as British and American officers stress teamwork and low altitude, steady bombing runs over camps and countryside.
New horizon blue service uniforms will be worn by all officially appointed YWCA War Work Council Secretaries traveling for war work. Sleeves will bear a blue triangle insignia. Winter and summer styles will be identical.
Thirty-five Four-Minute Men at a meeting were addressed by F. E. Dunlack Assistant Director of Publicity of the Department of Public Information Washington D C. He urged employers to secure labor from centralized government labor organizations and said next week they will press employers to back government policy aiding both sides in war industries.
Norwood ballpark will host a capacity crowd for the fifth game of the KI Association elimination series. Norwood Champions meet Potter's Tramps, the strongest traveling club. Tiemeyer to announce Norwoods' battery later.

A milk wagon driver broke a wrist after a fall on Morgan and Cope land streets and was saved at General Hospital. A car inspector died at the General Hospital from injuries after being crushed between cars. Electric wires damaged merchandise and building at 120 Longworth street. An overheat varnish pot exploded at 1660 Central avenue causing damages. A local store proprietor noted a counterfeit check after a man bought items with a $10 check. A building at 13 East Court street was purchased for remodeling. Various lodge and club notices, court fines, and police pension fund updates accompany the day’s briefs.
The Federal Food Board released a joint resolution from the food controllers of the United States France Italy and Great Britain via Federal Administrator Hoover. It urges rigid economy and elimination of waste in food consumption and handling to support transatlantic supply lines and build North American stocks for a prolonged war effort.
Harrison Kinsear, tied to J. M. McNey & Co. New York curb brokers with a Cleveland branch, was arrested on charges of obtaining money under false pretenses. W. W. Easterday, also linked to the firm, is sought on the same charge. The Cleveland office was ordered closed by State Licenses Commissioner P. O. Berry. Kinsear denies firm membership, saying he and Easterday were employees.
In Santiago Chile on August 1 difficulties arose in chartering three interned German steamers the Memphis Alda and Westphalia arranged by Adolph Ortuzar after April talks on leasing ships interned in Chilean harbors to ship saltpeter to Spain. Germany reportedly insisted ships be used to neutral ports only but in July the Chilean Cabinet refused to ratify the negotiations.
Mansfield Ohio August 1 T C Jenkins became Superintendent of the State Reformatory here today, succeeding J A Leonard who resigned due to ill health. Leonard was removed in weak condition to Detroit with his family and physician to live with his son. Relatives fear for his recovery.
Ernest T. Trigg, head of the Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce and a War Industries Board regional director, was elected president of the National Federation of Building Industries in New York. Walter S. Dickey of Kansas City became vice president and A. M. Maddock of Trenton, N. J., was named treasurer.
New York reports a rush air mail run delivering Woodrow Wilson Airway maps to Washington in 24 1/2 hours. Lieutenant Stephen Bonsal piloted the leg New York to Philadelphia in 42 minutes with 200 pounds of mail. The maps guide aviators along a 60 mile belt and cover the New York to San Francisco route.
Official prices list retail figures for granulated sugar coffee and vegetables. It notes cash and carry outlets offer lower prices and shows homegrown produce such as potatoes onions cabbage lettuce and cucumbers with a broad range of per pound or per dozen prices. An abundant potato and vegetable supply is reported while some fruits are in light supply.

A state primary is set for Saturday with four names on the ballot two Democrats and two Republicans. Republicans list Judge B. J. Bethurum and Ben L. Bruner as U.S. Senate contenders with Bethurum favored in Kenton County. Democrats include Senator Ollie James and William Preston Kimball with James expected to lead in Kenton County.
A War Department telegram to Mr. and Mrs. David W. McAmis of Covington informs that Sergeant John J. McAmis died in France on June 12 from wounds received in action. He enlisted June 1, 1917, served in trenches, and had been in France since October 5, 1917. He formerly worked for the L. and N. Railroad.
Employees of the Benson Hat Company at 25 West Fourth Street will hold a noon flag raising on Saturday. The event marks a workday start with company participation and community notice.
Alma Adler aged 5 of 3173 Mc Henry Road Westwood was hit by a car Thursday evening while playing in the street. She was rushed to Bethesda Hospital where surgery was performed for serious injuries.
Forty foreigners within Local Draft Board No. 152 volunteered at a meeting to waive exemptions and enter Class 1 of the draft. Most were Italians and Russians. many attendees were accompanied by their wives. Similar meetings will be held in other districts.
Commonwealth Attorney and Mrs. Blakely of Beechwood Avenue Ft. Mitchell mourn the infant son who died Thursday after being born Wednesday at Bethesda Hospital Cincinnati.
Covington reports say German newspapers are no longer delivered by local carriers. Placards appeared banning reading or patronizing German language papers along the pikes. The carrier strike shifts delivery to mail routes, with Cincinnati papers still reaching subscribers by mail.
Miss Anne Martin former President of the National Woman's party filed her petition as an independent candidate for United States Senator from Nevada with the Secretary of State. The petition was signed by 4 217 electors in Reno Nevada on August 1 1924.
Acting Health Officer Dr J P Riffe urged housewives to boil all drinking water for a few days while the Ft Thomas reservoirs supply line is cleaned. Water Works chief Robert Welling said repairs on the 30 inch Campbell County main caused muddy water as it moved into the new emergency line. officials expect clarity within a day or two.

Covington Selective Service Board Nec. 2 calls thirteen chauffeurs to depart for Indianapolis August 15. Clerk Tracy Palmer says only six volunteers so far, seven more needed. Enlisted men include Vogel pohl, Briggs, Lowenstein, Heile, Stultz, and Willenberg. The board also sends selectives to Auburn Technical School in Alabama and to Syracuse New York on August 15, with lists of names and addresses.
Citizens met in Armory Hall and elected Captain William Glore to chair a committee. The group will seek signatures to restore the old city government, aiming for 2 678 signatures sixty days before the election where the measure is put to voters.

In twenty five counties Governor Tom C. Rye leads Senator John K. Shields by about 2500 votes in the Democratic primary for U S Senate. Early returns show Judge A H Roberts ahead of Austin Peay for Democratic nomination for Governor by a slight margin at midnight.
Annual Whitewater Detective Association picnic set for Saturday at Tippecanoe Park in North Bend. Community business leaders from Cleves Harrison and Lawrenceburg offer premiums for contest and exhibit winners, promising a day of variety and regional participation.

A large Newport delegation will attend the patriotic rally in Falmouth Kentucky on Saturday afternoon. The group will travel by auto and be led by Wright Youtsey chairman of the State Council of Defense. Newport cars will join Covington autos in Independence and join the parade through Pendleton County.
Hattie Bollinger sues for divorce alleging cruelty and seeks custody of three children and alimony. A restraining order would stop the C. and O. Railway Company from paying defendant wages pending the action. Married August 1900.
Patrolman Shields arrested Hmeil Sieman at 142 Brighton for disorderly conduct. Mayor Livingston ordered weed control on vacant lots and toured the city to urge remedies. City Commissioners approved a payroll of 5309. Radio operator Herbert Schanke messaged his mother he arrived safely in France from Ft Barancas after leaving Newport last December. James Emmert and James Redmond arrived in France, Redmond being son of a man who died recently. City Auditor Edward J. Davis is ill at home Seventh and Park. Charles Gibson died at 1227 Fifth Avenue Dayton Ky. he had worked for American Express and retired years ago.

Hans Jacobson and Courant, both German born, were arrested in New York for plotting to supply German agents with airplane stabilizer plans and specifications. Investigators said Courant accessed the plans at his former employer and passed copies to Jacobson, who then delivered them to von Papen. They allegedly revealed shipment routes to France.
Twelve teleg raphers at the Western Union Telegraph Co in St Louis were discharged for wearing union buttons. Telegrams protesting the action were sent to President Wilson and Postmaster General Burleson. R F Wise, president of the St Louis District Council, warned a walkout may follow. G R Alger said the company policy on union affiliation had not changed.
Columbus Aug. 1 The State Fire Marshal's Department reports 121 arson convictions for the just-ended year the highest since the department's founding. The previous peak was 105 indicating a surge in arson prosecutions and enforcement.
Ernst Krohn secretary of the I W W branch in New York said he failed to register as an alien and to take citizenship papers due to just carelessness. He was taken to the Enemy Alien Bureau and his internment as a dangerous enemy alien is probable.
The United States Nurse Reserve drive reported fifty-two recruits with eight enlisting Thursday from campaign HQ at 417 Walnut Street. Hamilton County quota remains 230 with substantial room left to fill. Thursday’s recruits include Alice Kramer Emma Heltimis Marcella Schilling Margaret Riggs and others at listed addresses.
John D. Ryan announces United States will mass produce fifteen ton bombing aircraft domestically while smaller scouts and fighters stay under overseas manufacture. Liberty engine output rises with 400 motors built in July and 500 in August, peak likely by year end.
Prof. Frank R. Elliott is installed as dean of the Queen City College of Pharmacy. He has opened offices in the Lyme Building with Russell Olt as principal and actuary and Prof. Edward A as secretary. The Erie Theater in Hyde Park was sold by Mrs. Ellen J. Sweeney to E F Walters proprietor of Walter's bakeries for about 18000 dollars. The sale includes the building and adjoining property with an airdome. Walters plans to convert the building into store rooms and will screen Erie film contracts at the Hyde Park Amusement Company owned Park Theater.
Rev. William J. Anthony secretary to Archbishop Henry Moeller has been appointed chaplain in the army with the rank of First Lieutenant and must report to Quantico Virginia on August 5. Father Anthony previously served as chaplain at Ft. Thomas and was stationed at Camp Sherman during the present war.
St George's Catholic congregation on Vine and Corry streets hosts a farewell reception Sunday for the Catholic boys of the Ohio. The Motor Draft Detachment is in training at the University of Cincinnati.
