In Philadelphia the Athletics fall 3–0 to Mathewson’s Giants after a pitching duel. Crowds in smoking gloom watch a late comeback fail as injuries hamper Giants and fans endure damp, windy conditions with a large attendance and lively dodges for seating.
A touring car carrying a party from Plainville Ohio overturned twice on Indian Hill near Plainville last night. Miss Bright Kelly 22 of Covington died at the scene and five others were injured including Brent Arnell Jr Linnora Gooch Emily Woodall Polk Laffoon and Robert Meacham. The group had attended an informal dance nearby.

Sarah J. Ecker charges that detective Robert V. Ecker failed to support her on a $100 monthly salary while compelling her to fund his living and debts. She says he borrowed most of her earnings and left her with insufficient funds to run the home.

Two days of grace were given to Cincinnati and Dayton saloonkeepers charged with false transfer of fixtures by the Anti-Saloon League. Superintendent Propst delayed warrants after misplacing the list of names. He later recalled the papers at home and plans to proceed against the saloonkeepers today.
Deputy Sheriff James Pollock guarding copper mine strikers in Calumet Michigan was found dead along the Hurrontown road near Houghton with two bullet wounds and severe injuries. Five strikers were arrested on suspicion and one formally charged. Strikers demonstrated near the Osceola mines before State cavalry dispersed them.

Earl Stewart seven years old of 539 York street died after falling from a wagon driven by David Smith of 724 State avenue. The wagon, owned by Wallace Transfer Co., ran over his head. Lewis Miller of 841 Findlay street witnessed the tragedy and carried the boy to a nearby physician. Coroners Foertmeyer and Von Hoene advised Smith to surrender. he did so at the Fifth Police Station and was released after explaining the incident.
A report from Laredo claims Federal General Alvarez and 125 associates were executed yesterday in Torreon Mexico under General Francisco Villa of the Constitutionalists. The rebels reportedly captured most federal arms and artillery as the four day battle caused heavy losses on both sides.
