Chiefs back multibillion-dollar child welfare deal
Ontario Chiefs vote to ratify a 10-year 47.8 billion child welfare reform pact with Canada. Grand Chief Alvin Fiddler of Nishnawbi Aski Nation and Chief Archie Wabasse of Wunnumin Lake First Nation led the Ontario approval amid support from regional chiefs. The remoteness funding feature aims to reflect true remote service costs. Wabasse noted the agreement will aid families in Wunnumin and will be discussed further at the AFN assembly in Calgary.
