MTO uses intermittent truck inspections near Thunder Bay
The Ministry of Transportation says intermittent truck inspections are used to catch unsafe trucks when stations lack regular hours. A new 30 million facility on Highway 11 17 east of Thunder Bay opened this year, but the ministry does not track outcomes by facility. MPP Lise Vaugeois argues for more frequent inspections to boost enforcement and safety charges under the Highway Traffic Act.

Thunder City Speedway Emerges As Top North American Dirt Track
Sood word spreads among U S racers that Thunder City Speedway ranks among the three best dirt tracks in North America. Norm Nadin, the track’s developer, notes rising local attendance with 135 to 150 racers, peaking at 185 for invitationals this fall. Racers from Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois and Minnesota praised the venue and crowds. The project feeds local businesses through racing-related supply contracts and ongoing infrastructure work at Arthur Street West to complete campsites, with a new scoreboard and aluminum bleachers planned and a go kart track for kids. Open date targeted for next year if weather holds.
