Restore Days boost diversion from Thunder Bay landfill
The City of Thunder Bay hosts Restore Days at the Solid Waste and Recycling Facility from today through Saturday. Habitat for Humanity’s Restore manager Todd Davis says the program prevented about 700,000 pounds of usable items from entering the landfill in the last year. Donations include building materials, appliances, cabinets, furniture, tools, plumbing and electrical items, with paint accepted only from retailers and not residents. The event features a strong furniture and houseware focus, and proceeds support Habitat housing projects. Residential donations are discouraged. large-item pickups run Tuesday to Friday, with landfill collection during Restore Days 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. past the weigh scales.
