Domestic violence charges rise in rural Thunder Bay district
April OPP statistics show 284 intimate partner violence occurrences between Kenora Marathon and Thunder Bay area communities including Shabaqua Armstrong. Of these, 91 led to criminal charges. Red Lake detachment faced the most cases with near 70. Northeastern Ontario saw about 425 suspected cases. May 16 Moose Hide Campaign Walk planned in Thunder Bay to raise awareness, with support helplines 211 and Assaulted Women's Helpline at 1 866 863-0511.

Five shovels mark the start of the 38 million National Marine Conservation Area Administrative and Visitors Centre near Nipigon 17 years after the announcement by then prime minister Stephen Harper MP Joe Comuzzi and Patty Hajdy spoke of the project’s value. Parks Canada and local leaders attended under drizzle as designs for the first passive building highlight energy efficiency and solar shading.
