Ukulele group spreads joy and activity in Vermilion Bay

Sunset Country Ukulele formed two years ago by Susanne Bastable and Mary Lindmeier. They learned in Mexico during winters and brought the idea home to share. The group grew from a small gathering to more than 40 members and now performs at Patricia Gardens, Princess Court, The Go Getters, 10 Victoria, the Annual Fish Fry Pontoon Boat ride in Vermilion Bay, and Eagle River Coffeehouse.

Community music group hosts seasonal sessions in Northwestern Ontario

Suspect charged after hostage situation at Thunder Bay pharmacy

A 63 year old Thunder Bay man faces multiple charges including forcible confinement after an armed standoff at a Cumberland Street North pharmacy. Police received a weapons call around 8 30 am and the suspect entered the store brandishing a firearm toward three people inside. Continued on page A3.

Ontario unmasks energy plan for long term growth

Ontario unveiled Energy for Generations an integrated plan to power the strongest economy. Minister Stephen Lecce touted Ontario’s mineral resources and skilled workforce while Northwestern Ontario leaders welcomed the strategy. Dumas highlighted future mine and forestry growth, transmission upgrades, and Ring of Fire power needs. The plan aims to unify fuels and technologies with expanded transmission and a modernized grid driven by nuclear expertise and clean energy.
