Highway 11 17 four-laning advances toward Nipigon plan
The Ministry of Transportation says about 75 percent of the 110 kilometre Thunder Bay to Nipigon Highway 11 17 will be four lanes by end of 2026. Two main segments, 8.3 kilometres near Coughlin Road and 14.4 kilometres from Highway 587 to Pearl Lake, total over 120 million dollars and are due for completion by year end 2026.

LRCA approves 2025 budget with 400K dredging project
Lakehead Regional Conservation Authority sets a 4.5 million plan for 2025 including 400 thousand dollars for dredging the Neebing McIntyre floodway. Thunder Bay will cover about 980 thousand of a 1.1 million levy, with Oliver Paipoonge and Shuniah contributing 64 and 57 thousand respectively. The levy increases about 3 percent. Thunder Bay police budget exceeds council guidance
The Thunder Bay Police Service Board approved the 2025 operating budget of 59,193,100 dollars, a net rise of 2.9 million or 5.1 percent over 2024, higher than the council’s 3.8 percent guideline. Noted drivers include a 4.1 million personnel service increase for bargaining, four new special constables for the Provincial Offences Court, and 128 thousand in purchases services for pay equity, surveys, and radio maintenance. The plan also projects 1.6 million more in revenue from provincial and First Nation agreements and a possible extension of the TB Regional Health Sciences Centre contract through December 2025.
