Northern Ontario textile recycling pilot aims to insulate homes
Sic Sox Circular Ltd and Confederation College in Thunder Bay launch textile donation bins across the North to divert clothing from landfills. Doris Mitchell and son Jerrett Paquette lead the project with Brunswick House First Nation ownership and 10 percent stake. Proceeds support Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls initiatives. A bonded process shreds natural fibers into nanofiber insulation using boron nitride, funded by Grand Challenges Canada with $125,000 for a year. Collection bins total 64 across the North with two at Confederation College.
