Traps divert litter from Lake Superior in Thunder Bay
EcoSuperior installed Litta Traps in 16 storm drains about two months ago to capture litter entering waterways around Thunder Bay. With over 500 pieces collected this summer, cigarette butts account for about 60 percent, along with food packaging and large plastic fragments. The U S grant funded the project part of a Great Lakes region effort to reduce plastic pollution. Data from monitoring will inform residents, lawmakers, and businesses on waste management and global plastic pollution mitigation efforts.

Rents rise in Canada but pace slows in July
The Rentals.ca and Urbanation report shows national average asking rents at $2,201 in July, up 5.9 percent year over year. Vancouver and Toronto posted declines while Quebec City Halifax and Prairie cities posted double-digit gains with Saskatchewan leading at 22.2 percent.
