A prolonged rain and wet snow extended about thirty six hours delivering ample moisture. Ground is saturated. 4 to 6 inches of snow fell, minor losses to lambs and calves reported but grain hay and range benefit. Wires down, Chateau dark, spring crops rebounding with beet seedings complete.
The county W C T U convention meets in Cha teau on May 31 with a full day program including scripture reading, registration talk, duet by Miss Clark and Miss Hanson, medal contest work, and reports from unions and superintendents. An evening Grand Gold Medal contest at the high school features Paul Sandberg Wilfred Sand berg Davis Phillips Avis Bailey and Lucile Fitzgerald with a collection taken.
The Montana Supreme Court heard arguments on the constitutionality of the Farm Loan Act passed two years ago. Treasurer Rae last week sold 100000 dollars worth of bonds but was enjoined from distributing the proceeds. A decision is expected soon with C K Pew opposing the act for Helena interests and W H Poorman defending its constitutionality.
Louise F. Lusk of Missoula Montana the first woman elected as a delegate from Montana to the Republican national convention reaches Chicago. She will vote for Senator Cummins of Iowa while in the race and declines to discuss Col. Roosevelt.
More nominations arrive for county posts with republicans W H Webb for treasurer and C James Smith for auditor. Democrats H A Prescott seeks county clerk and recorder, Harry G Putt also runs for clerk and recorder, William Miller pursues sheriff, and W B Stalnaker backs a democrat slate.
The 1915 registration law lists deputy registrars in each precinct ready to register electors. Precincts include Choteau, Farmington, Bynum, Dupuyer, Birch Creek, Porter, Conrad, Cut Bank, Red River, Lubec, Agawam, and more with officials like County Clerk and named registrars. Registration for the August primary closes July 29. voters not registered cannot vote.
Memorial Day and Memorial Sunday observances are set for Chateau this year with the program at the courthouse next Tuesday at 2 p m. Included are Bugle Call Invocation Band Selection addresses readings from Lincoln's Gettysburg Address and Decoration Day, plus choir quartette and band selections. Reverend Haley leads prayers and benediction to close.
W. L. Lawson superintendent of the Billings sugar factory inspected the experimental beet crop over Sunday evening and Monday forenoon. He expressed satisfaction with progress and, with field manager A. M. Henderson, departed Monday to visit other beet growing points.
Memorial Sunday observance by a union meeting at the Methodist church will include Rev. L. F. Haley delivering the address.
A week of commencement events drew large crowds to the high school auditorium. Four graduates, all girls Ida Miller Irene Jones Gladys Whitacre Beulah Sprinkle, with Howard Torkelson earning near-diploma status, participated in Theme Day class day and a full play titled A Romance of Old Plymouth. The evening included music readings and tributes, ending with diploma presentations by L A Footne and remarks by attorney McDonald. Alumni banquet scheduled for tonight at the Glenloyd.
Helena May 22 215 feeble minded children in Montana await enlarged Boulder school facilities to admit them. President Menzemer met with the state board to discuss a dormitory for 25 to 60 pupils and proposes a 21 year old plus colony farm plan for ongoing state supervision and care. He argues current law releases at 21 and predicts higher costs and intermarriage if left uncontrolled.
C I Lassell, a widower rancher from Dupuyer, was found dead in the west side yards after a suspected attempt to board moving freight cars. His body was located by the switching crew. Coroner W D Madden leads the inquest, with Abbey Lassell of Belfast, Maine, listed as the daughter.
