Settlers Bring Large Live Stock Importations to Montana
Montana figures show 1947 emigrants arriving with 8 701 horses and 11 543 cattle from January 1 to May 1. Additional 117 horses and 11 094 cattle were shipped in. April imports total 99 shipments with 4 032 cattle and 92 261 horses. Minnesota led April shipments with 179, followed by 114 from North Dakota and others from Wisconsin Washington and more.

Rifle Match At Chateau May 7 Ends Pending Final Scores
The Chateau Rifle Association and Company M N G M held a rifle match starting Sunday May 7 with unfavorable wind lowering scores. The Rifle Club led by 11 points on the first shoot though total scores across all ranges will decide the winner when the match concludes. A C Burbank chaired the pits with Lt C James Smith and Capt L A Foot directing firing. The final results follow.

John Grant McLean 62 a veteran railroad contractor for the Canadian Pacific and other lines died in Spokane after stomach surgery. Survived by widow Isabella Comfort McLean and three brothers Kenneth Henry and R T McLean. He had lived in Spokane three years and was a Knights Templar member. Great Northern Railway advances a northward extension from Bynum toward Porter beach country. A contract is let, Taft to inspect, and right of way purchases proceed. A townsite near Shawver and Lewis lands will be platted and sold by Chateau Land & Loan with anticipated bank and lumber yard sites.
