First Stage Coach Robbery and Vigilante Legacy Told
Shan of Montana lore recounts the 1863 Virginia City to Bannack coach robbery led by Bummer Dan with $7,000 lost. The tale links to the Vigilantes and the 1860s murder ring led by Henry Plummer, George Ives, and others, and ties the Red River boundary dispute between Texas and Oklahoma to later legal clashes and land rights.
