About 2,400 Montana teachers contribute one dollar monthly toward the teachers retirement fund as compiled by Dr. H. H. Swain. Of roughly 4,000 teachers in Montana, 1,600 are exempt while new hires face mandatory participation. After 25 years service a pension of 50 dollars monthly is available, but no retirements before 1919.
Early in the week sheriff Wm Miller withdrew to focus on his Walier ranch but public pressure led him to consent again to run for re election. He pledges full time tenure and a square deal if nominated and elected.
Senator Thomas J. Walsh of Montana said he is not a candidate for the Supreme Court seat but would accept if President Wilson offers him the position. He stated he knows nothing of the President’s plans and has no intention of pursuing the appointment.
Helena-born actor J Frank Logan son of Rev Geo Logan now in New York as a $150 a week movie star under the stage name J Frank Grendon. He left Helena a decade ago after early schooling in Choteau and Montana Wesleyan graduation. He sings, acted with Mabel Page company, toured the east and south, and entered movies two years ago appearing in Salama der Price of Malice and Her Reckoning.
Rosa Johnson and Earl Taylor Johnson wed Wednesday at the Kirsch home near Agawam with Signa Hag land as maid of honor and Everett Perkins as groomsman. Rev Hall officiated as guests toasted with a breakfast and the couple planned a Montana honeymoon before settling in Missoula after July 1.
The thirteenth Montana Episcopal convention opens Sunday June 18 in Great Falls. Rev. L F Haley will be away. Sunday school only at the church. The gathering lasts through Wednesday night with women’s day on Wednesday when guild reports are due.
Butte unions ended the labor standstill that idle 2000 workers across trades by agreeing to arbitration with the Silver Bow Employers' association. Leaders had refused to recognize the employers since June 1 when a 50 cent wage raise took effect. Workers will return to their jobs pending final adjustment.
Senator Thomas Larson announced plans for a new 50 by 84 foot two story concrete business block on Main Avenue at First Street N. W. The Citizens State Bank will occupy the corner space and Frost Clothing Store the adjacent unit. The existing frame building will be moved aside and tenants remain until completion. Great Falls architect George Shanley is drafting plans and construction will begin soon.
Multiple notices show candidates declaring for sheriff of Teton county with Republican and Democratic affiliations. R P Dick Dean, John Zimmerman, JM Weaver, and William Miller seek party nominations in the August 1916 primaries, pledging to serve taxpayers or pursue honest duties if elected.
A.B. Guthrite declares oneself a Republican candidate for the office of county treasurer in Teton County. A Tama freeholder and fifteen-year resident, Guthrite cites practical accounting knowledge and pledges an economical, efficient administration if nominated and elected.
Conrad Mont candidate announces run for county commissioner on the Democratic ticket subject to primary voters August 29 1913. He pledges careful duty performance and a square deal for all sections of the county if nominated and elected.
The Conrad hosts defeated Choteau four to one Sunday at the high school diamond. Conrad pitchers Kenyon and Barbour held off the visitors after the fourth inning as Choteau failed to string hits. Rachac worked for Choteau with eight strikeouts, while Duckett had a three base hit for Conrad.

Dr Leighton of Boulder formerly state senator from Jefferson county files with secretary A M Alderson as a Republican candidate for governor. He pledges a square deal to all and no special privileges and asks the ballot label read For a greater Montana square deal to all special privileges to none.

A group of Gibson’s neighbors and friends held a Friday evening surprise for his birthday. The gathering featured conversation and ample cake and rice cream, with Gibson receiving a handsome traveling bag. Present were Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Cowell, Mr. and Mrs. C. S. McDonald, Mr. and Mrs. K. G. McLean, Mr. and Mrs. T. O. Larson, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Jacobson, Mr. and Mrs. Phil S. Cole, Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Guthrie, Mrs. J. G. Bair, and Mrs. Sterling McDonald.
Mr. Streeter and his family departed Thursday for North Dakota and Minnesota. They will travel by auto and stay about a month, planning a round trip through the two states.
The Montana Supreme Court scheduled a June 22 hearing on the appeal of the state from a district court order that dismissed a case against Rocky Mountain Elevator Co. over alleged anti- discrimination violations. The suit cites elevator operations at Choteau and Dutton with competition at Choteau but not at Dutton and notes freight-rate differences. A 1915 wheat shipment to Dutton earned $1.11 per bushel with dockage, while the same day shipment to Chateau with competition netted $1.26 per bushel with less dockage. The lower court found the 1918 law ambiguous to define a crime.
J O Black manager for G W Deninger & Co arrives with tobaccos to set up a factory in Chateau in a room beside the Club saloon on Main avenue north. They plan temporary use of the space with July 1 arrival of the other partner, and will manufacture El Marcus and Bradwick cigars in several sizes noted as Havana and Flavana blends.
President Wilson weighs a successor to Charles E. Hughes on the supreme bench with Attorney General Gregory to be briefed. John W. Davis is favored but may be blocked by pending DOJ cases. Taft supporters press for him while a Democrat is expected to be named.
